seriously though, the ony one in that top 10 i would agree with to be in the top 10 is eminems signing with dre just becuase it introduced the whole white culture people speak about, maybe it wasnt benificial in all ways of hip hop but it was a huge moment for the music

but really though, Rakim stepping up lyricism and multi's should be in there somewere (if my memory serves and what i read is true he invented that shit and well..i mean every decent MC tries to perfect it now)

like i already said Run DMC breaking into MTv or more there collab with areosmith and breaking those boundries, and ofcourse Kool herc should be No1 the biggest moment for anything is when its given birth (hence why you celebrate your birthday every dam year) so why isnt it in the top 10, id also say 2pac should be there..probly his death (sadly) but it was a HUGE moment in hip hop

the magazine dont know shit

from what I understand, they're only naming events that happened since the first issue of XXL, so that explains why they didn't even mention Biggie or 2Pac's death etc... in other words, they list the 100 biggest events they've covered so far

it's not really clear, but that's what I understood from their introduction

It was after Pac's death around 1997, Biggie's time in leaving us so they are just putting down the best events since then when the mag did it's first issue.

no mention for Run DMC breaking into MTV.....

no mention of DJ kool herc inventing the dam music....

fucking gay magazine

WORD!

Or Rakim taking hip-hop lyricism to unpresedented levels.
Or Ice-T inventing Gangsta Rap
Lots of shit far more important than they've noted.

Eminem being signed is a big one, but Fifty? Fuck off!

EDIt:

Just realised that the list is for events that happened "post" 1997. In that case the list isn't that bad, but no way is 50's signing No. 1. EMinem should be right there. I would've liked Big Pun to get a shout there too, he debuted in 1999, and was the first latin american rapper to go platinum!

well after seeing its post 97, im guess not alot can be argued with (although still some suck like 50 cent)

although i now say this whole thing is pointless, i mean the top 100 of hip hop ever is alot more realistic thing to do instead of just post 97, i mean your missing out on most of the 90's (golden years) and also the birth of the music and the big events that took it to were it is now.

having 50 cent be #1, proves how shitty this magazine is, how is Eminem not ahead of 50? you couldn't have #1 without #8

they're talking about the event itself... personally I don't remember hearing too much about Eminem getting signed, he wasn't really famous back then... the only special thing was that Dre signed a white rapper... I can't say I paid attention that much tho, but I think there was a huge hype about 50 cent before he got signed since he got shot etc... so 50 Cent getting signed by Dre and Em was a big moment and I guess it deserved the first place, I don't know, like I said, I never really paid attention to that type of stuff, but I don't mind that list... they're not saying that 50 Cent getting signed is the most important thing that happened for hip hop or something, it's just about big events since 1997 that got a lot of attention from the media
