Best Game Song Ever - Portal?

Bought the Orange Box, played Portal, completed it and wow - anyone else think the ending song 'Still Alive' is the great peice of music ever written. Out of context it would be suitable as a song played during a education cartoon for young children but after the twisted ending of an amazing Game, it revels in it's humour and emotional substance. It's impact is up there with the first time I heard Clapton kick the intro to Layla, the first time Tupac's Changes touched us all, the solo from While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

The greatest track from any game ever.
(Apart from the Streets of Rage 2 ending track and the music from Zelda: Ocarina of Time).

I'm kidding with the music comparisons but seriously, I love the damn ending tune.
Got on mp3, sounds nuts on my speakers, it needs a good sub-woofer for the full effect,
played it on cheap speakers at work and it sounded a tad lame, specially to others who don't know where it comes from.

hmmm well from how u sound it sounds like the song is great... Never heard it b4 but the best music i hav heard for an FPS is the Castle Tank Boss music on TimeSplitters 3. Yeah that one was a classic for a war scene, i even recorded it and play it on other war games on my computer. Its a great track .

i followed Slimms link and i listened to the song... honestly speakin it had very little impact on me...dont know y...maybe u hav to play the game first from scratch to finish before u really notice anything but i did not find the song very interestin.

And by the way wats the street rage on Zelda completely forgot about it. But i know Ocarina of time for sure has the best music every for any videogame. I especially like the music that plays when u dual, its very excitin and since i used to play the game when i was young and not very skilled at Zelda type of games i got really scared and my blood pressure rose greatly cuz i had very lil self esteem. I mean it was so scary for me back then u just walk in a room. Door shuts, then u run forward a lil then all of a sudden....BOOM! the music starts playin and u see two lizards holdin daggards chargin at u with their sheilds shoutin, and since the graphics were pretty bad they even look more scarier than some of the enemies on the Twilight princess still had great fun tho and enjoyed all the music (also especially the rain song)

^ Damn right, I've got the soundtrack from Koji Kondo and it's a wierd feeling whenever I play it as not only is the music amazing (lost woods, Lonlon Ranch, Fairys Fountin etc) but it takes me back to five years ago, when I was a young teen and gets me thinking of life. Damn emotional, and I know I'll never get that connected to a game ever again, something real innocent and imaginative about being a child that you lose once you hit 15 or so.

I'm a programmer so know a lot about the process of producing a game, analysis or requirements, designing and so on, couple that with learning more about the world and business from college etc, it takes the magic away from games and makes it harder to suspend your disbelief, not to say that today's games don't do it for me (Gears of War and The Orange Box for example are some of the greatest games I've ever played) but I miss lying awake at night for hours thinking about the next part of a super mario game and not being able to sleep over being excited about playing it the next day.

I wanna go back.

Final Fantasy 7 has a great soundtrack, but one of my favourites is the Final Fantasy 8 Soundtrack, the song played while squall and rhinoa are in the ragnarock (at the time) was so dam emoitional and it grasped me as a 12 year old sitting at 3 o clock in the morning lol, was just a gaming moment ill always remember

but defiantly the Smash bros soundtracks are always great, along with most final fantasies and (as always) Ocirina Of Time was a classic in the way of gaming soundtracks

Metroid also got a great soundtrack too ever since the first game and to the last. I love the Pirate music damn thats the best. The first time u ever hear it its fuckin freaky but cool tho . I saw my brother play it once it was awesome. He just walked into a dark room where u cant see shit then u hear snarlin in the background, and a intese low high pitch scary music playin in the background then all of a sudden u see a pirate jump in front of ur face and slash the screen and shout or somethin and then the freaky scary music starts to kick it. Luved it really helped to immerse u right into the game. And also the space fortress scifi track was neat too, one of the best i hav ever heard in its gendre. Apart from those there were also a lot of great tracks in the games .

Oh yeah but after Ocarina of Time i wud hav to say The Windwaker has the best sound track. It was great . Everysingle track. My favorite was the one when ur sailin at sea, (give u some sorta heroic feelin in u as u sail the ocean searchin for adventure ), the dualing music (really cool ), and the Windtemple boss music, (u know the big sand shark? the music kinda reminds me of Guligans Island or somethin but still one of the best in the game )....

But wat saddens me is that the Twilight princess did not really bring in any very good knew fantastic tracks that are memorable... wat a pity

Oh yeah and also Ultimate Spider-Man had some really good music, probably the best for any super hero game and miles better than the Spider-Man 2 useless soundtrack. It was great, music really helped me to enjoy playin the game....(for the short time it lasted)
