^ I don't think that it was the deciding factor in ending Sega's console business. It was the last dying breath...however, the massive failure of the Saturn and the lackluster support of the 32x were both factors leading up to the demise of it all. The Dreamcast as a console was solid, and a great system; Sega just didn't handle it right, similarly to the way they handled all of their systems, save for the Genesis.

The console itself, however, was really, really good. That's my opinion, and you're entitled to yours, but I don't understand how the Dreamcast doesn't just strike everyone as one of the greats, despite the fact that it didn't live up to it's full potential...

Seriously though, nobody played Seaman? lol.

Wow you're actually retarded

How is that a success?

First of all the Dreamcast lost money because it was honestly ahead of it's time and was trying to utilize technology that couldn't fully be utilized (i.e. online play on consoles... i mean seriously it wasn't profitable until a year or two after PS2 came out). That sounds similar to something people rave about today... oh that's right. It's called the Playstation 3. Graphics capabilities that can't be used to their fullest potential among other things.

Deadishot wrote:breaking it down a little more...
It has a handful of good games, little to none third party support(SEGA fault), No backwards compatibility (in comparison to its main competitor ps3). and I hear you need a shitload of memory cards to save your info. Also the controllers are wack(this is a preference however)

Had far more than a handful of good games, but that's opinion. SEGA was making some of the best games of the time. Backwards compatibility to what? The Genesis? The Sega CD? The Saturn? That's just stupid. And since when did the PS3 come out in fucking 1998 (which is like almost 2 years before the PS2 came out)? I didn't need a "shitload" of memory cards. I had like 2 dozen games and maybe 4 memory cards. FAR less than I had for PS2. And the controller was awesome, but again that's opinion.

Deadishot wrote:i don't really know too much about it, but my main argument is that it ended SEGA's console business.
Losing money and ending a business.. i have a hard time seeing that as a success.

You could have said you didn't know what you were talking about in your original post and saved us all time. Oh and PS3 has lost Sony money up to this point. So what's that? The Failstation 3? Smfh.

I have around 8 games for the Dreamcast and I still only have 1 memory card which is around half-way through it's memory so the memory ain't a problem.

The games were fucking awesome. Amongst the ones I had and loved: Hydro Thunder, Sonic Adventures & Crazy Taxi. Other honorable mentions are: Showtime, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 & Virtua Tennis.

Graphically it was ahead of it's time. Damn those graphics were fucking amazing!

I think SEGA failed because they commercially sucked at business and didn't seem to be able to manage it plus having an earlier failure (SEGA Saturn) I don't think it could cope.

Online play was inmensely expanded by Xbox LIVE but the Dreamcast already had one of the first eariler options of online play.

Well in order to justify bringing up a dormant thread...

I just got a Dreamcast yesterday! I'm fuckin' stoked about it. It was $35 with the controller and VMU (red) and I picked up Evil Dead for it while I was there. There were only a few games there for it so Evil Dead was what I settled with, okay? Fuck you if you don't agree with my choice.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had any actual experience burning CD-R's with files to play in the Dreamcast. It's been a fairly common thing with this console and I just thought perhaps some one interested in this topic has pursued it further than I have. I've been working on it but have had some trouble for some reason getting everything together. Anyway, I'm interested in getting DreamSNES and maybe a Bleem! Pack of MGS and probably NESter.

Anyone done this type of thing before here?
