Bioshock Infinite's Ending (spoiler)

This deserves a thread of it's own because it's ending is in a league of it's own.

Yes, it was a complex array of possibilities and confusion made possible by bending the laws of reality, which makes this ending in some way a cheap trick, but none the less genius.

Okay, let me recap the endingbefore my fucking brain explodes.
MAJOR SPOILS AHEAD

The central decision point of the game is whether Booker decides to cleanse himself of his sins (during the war) by the baptism. In alternate realities, if he decides to go through with it, he becomes a religious fanatic and the villian, Comstock, creating the dystopic reality where Columbia is created and he takes Booker's daughter Anna, renaming her Elizabeth.

Lucete in the normal reality is "bad", hired by Comstock to take Anna. Lucete in the dystopic reality is "good", hires Booker to rescue Elizabeth from Comstock.

Since Booker and Comstock are the same person, it's apparent that it's impossible to smother Comstock before he was born, in a literal sense, but in a figurative sense it becomes possible. Elizabeth drowns Booker at the baptism, cutting off Comstock's timeline as well as ending the existence of Elizabeth, but leaving Anna alive.

I hope I got this right, did I?

Oh, so it happens right after the baptism, not right before it. Thanks, makes sense.

The post-credit ending is still ambiguous though. There's no way of knowing if Anna is alive or not, but its presumed she is.

Am I the only one who actually took it as a happy ending? "Comstock" was killed and Booker was able to have his kid in the end and live happily ever after with her. Did I miss something?

I saw this as well. Since Booker was still alive at the end credits.

But yes, I loved this ending. Confusing and shocking at the same time, it takes a lot of thought to put the story together and have it makes sense in your head. I still think about this ending today, I thought it and the twist was incredible.

The whole idea of infinite universes is kind of a cop out though. Like how could you guess that Elizabeth is his daughter? "Oh well you know, she kinda came from the future cause she can rip through universes and can do whatever she wants with them." I dont know it just feels weird. That's why the twist is so shocking. Nobody would really think about that until the very end when she's explaining the whole idea to you.

i see your point. time paradoxes are an easy way to bend logic and therefore make an impossible scenario seem possible. but irrational games took a big risk by making an ending this bold. it may be completely crazy, but in a generation where so many games follow the same mold, its refreshing to see a game that's ambitious enough to be this bizarre.
