arsenal ps3 wired controller

so i just got a wired controller from a friend i didnt know they made any for ps3

so i plug it in and it just keeps flashing as if it will connect but it doesnt its brand new
has anyone had any experience with these
i tried resetting it and pressed every damn button

You plugged it in with a wire or what? You have to plug it in with a wire to connect it. If not I have no clue
