I won't give a full out review or verdict on this as I'll just ramble on forever. It's too good a film.
I went into the film just hoping this wouldn't be the QT film that let me down.
Initial critical reaction was mixed. Which was pretty strange given how great he is and how long he's been writing this thing (a decade). A lot of reviews were saying they were surprised at how dull QT's dialogue had gotten. This claim I had to check out.
As every QT or... Most film fans know, what Tarrantino is credited mainly for is his crackling dialogue. The way he uses word wizadry and charisma to create magical rapport between the characters. I have to say, as soon as the film came on, I knew his dialogue was as class as ever. First scene is intense and... Just fantastic the way he does it. The nuances are joyful to watch.
I won't review the middle but I'll say that the ending, is one of the most satisfying in recent cinema times to me. You actually expect it to be more but then when you get the little dribbles of satisfaction in that few seconds... It's just as it should be.
Brad Pitt also fit well in his role. I thought Pitt may slightly ruin a QT film as although he can be great in some roles - Such as Fight Club (amazing), he can seem to be... Quite dull or... I don't know. Almost like he can't act sometimes lmao, I don't quite know myself what I mean.
But he was great in this role. He's good at playing cocky guys and it's good the film has an air of narcissistic wit about it, which this one does. Potently and beautifully.
All in all - A wonderfully written, superbly directed and correctly acted movie that nearly ticks all the boxes. For all the right reasons. I'd even go as far as to say it's his best since Pulp Fiction. Maybe not better than it but it's very hard to judge as Pulp Fiction is already a cemented classic. I think this film will age very well indeed though.
