The 3D used in avatar revolutionized visual movie making.

The story and Characters of avatar, the world of Pandora, the Nav'i and every creature/plant down to the last spinning firefly thing was ALL created by Cameron.. All thought up by him.. You cannot call a movie like this overrated, it takes freakin genius to create something like this and he made it happen. The man worked on this project for a good 8+ years and even made a book on it.

AVATAR deserves every bit of recognition and every dollar is earns. Hating on it because your mad at the amount it deserves is one thing but calling it over rated or a bad movie is just a plain stupid remark, i would love to hear something besides "IT HAD NO PLOT"... Tell me what made the movie bad or overrated..

I feel like I'm missing something here, I was mad blazed when I watched it and I liked it. Damn am I meant to feel ashamed or guilty for liking it? For all I remember it was one of the craziest movies I've seen, could give a damn about the story, I love graphics and special effects.

I thought it was a very entertaining film. Especially the last 30 mins or so but I do agree that it is getting way overrated by people. And it is just the story of the native americans but the visual effects make it enjoyable to watch. I don't think I blinked the first time I saw it in IMAX 3D. But if people's expectations weren't so high I think more people would like it. Media and fanboys have made too big of a deal about it :coffee:

I don't think it's overrated, I think it's bad for film making. Now film makers are going to start thinking more business wise than art wise, seeing how it's possible for a bad film to make billions as long as it's loaded with special effects.
Look at the last 4 or 5 years: The Departed, There will be Blood, Wall-e, Slumdog Millionaire, etc.
All awesome movies without going overboard with special effects.
Now all that great film making is wasted... just so Cameron can make his 2 billion+ dollars.
Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.

I guess most of the ones who watched it were amazed by the effects and the new 3D, not by the plot. :n:

I agree about the effect on film making. I don't want a bunch of Michael Bay's running around trying to make movies by just spending a ton of money to make cool special effects. I really had no problem with AVATAR until the Golden Globes, I really thought THE HURT LOCKER and its director Kathryn Bigelow deserved to win. That film got absolutely robbed IMO

When I came out of the cinema after watching it I was really impressed. It wasn't because of the plot obviously, but just generally, I was really impressed by the way it had been made.

Impressive indeed, But I`ll take an amazing plot over amazing special effects any day. But don’t get me wrong I’m not hating on the movie, I salute James Cameron for being able to do this. :smoking:

Regardless of your critique, James Cameron is a BEAST.
