The ugly truth behind The Matrix

Postby GenePeer » Nov 26th, '10, 12:21

Yeah, I finally saw The Matrix 11 years after it first came out. I was shocked to realize the movie wasn't all about fighting but actually had a great story. If you haven't seen the movie, here's the gist of it. Man finally creates machines that can think and, for some reason not mentioned in the movie, tries to destroy them later on by unexplicably ( also not mentioned in the movie ) creating an everlasting thick cloud to block out the sun. It was believed that the machines won't be able survive without solar energy ( whatever happened to nuclear power? o.0 ). The machines realize they can actually get energy from our bodies, so they turn most of the world into a human farm where they grow human beings and use them as fuel. The catch is instead of just giving human beings some drugs to permanently keep them unconscious while they're used as batteries, the machines created a...nother machine to which the human beings are connected to experience a "dream world". The matrix is this dream world. There are some people, "the rebels", who are still living in the real world and are trying to defeat the machines by destroying the matrix.

Now that's the good movie, and here's the ugly truth. While the rebels enter the matrix, they have to fight agents (computer programs working for the machines in the real world). But these agents don't have real bodies but just take up bodies of people connected to the matrix, you know, the people who are being used as fuel and living an imaginary life in the matrix. Everytime the rebels "kill an agent", the agent just takes up the body of another person and somewhere in the real world someone dies because they've been killed in the matrix. Basically, what the rebels are doing is killing innocent "slaves" in the name of freeing the "slaves". This is some serious collateral damage, ONLY INNOCENTS ARE KILLED! Even the sadest war movies don't have such collateral damage. Heck, even wars in real life aren't like that. This was all I could think about during the scene where Neo & Trinity shoot up a bunch of security guards. These security guards were going about their normal (imaginary) lives until some couple just showed up and started mercilessly shooting them up. Since when do you deserve to die for being a security guard? It's not their fault they chose to work with the government! How were they supposed to know that the government is actually run by some evil machines feeding off them? Bottom-line: Only eight bad guys (the robots attacking their ship at the end of the movie & the snitch) are killed, I can't even begin to count how many innocent people were killed.

The machines aren't killing anyone. They're just feeding off people but at least they have the decency to give these people an illusion of a better life. And the rebels are trying to shutdown the matrix in the name of freedom, but what will actually happen to the billions of people connected to the machine? They will all die, talk about GLOBAL MASSACRE. Enough Said.
