american/british tv series

Postby clustr » Feb 19th, '11, 11:11

hi :)

since i'd like to improve my english skills, i'm looking for an american/english tv series to watch.

Of course the stan inside me yells for watching The Wire, since Eminem appreciates this series ;) but on the other hand, i was told that there are some heavy accents in it and that i might have some problems understanding everything. Ive been watching some episodes of Californication lately, which i really liked, but i'm looking for some variety when i'm sated of ... yeah... "sexual content" :)

I'm open for almost every type of series, it just shouldn't be something "too sci-fi", like Supernatural for example.

Thanks for your advices in advance :>

I can't praise The Wire enough. Really, really brilliant stuff. It's true that the accents can be quite thick, and frequent use of slang, but you're English seems fine to me, I don't think you'd have much of a problem with that. There's always rewind and subtitles though!
I heard good things about it, but never got around to watching it for one reason or another. My friend at work lent me the DVD boxset back in November. Watched the entire series in full twice now and bought the boxset myself. It's kinda changed/spoilt TV for me in a way - I compare everything to Wire and get disappointed because nothing ever comes close, haha. It's THAT good :)
I'm not so good with the advice... Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?

Scrubs - probably one of the best series ever made :8)
Grey's Anatomy
Private Practice

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia
Everybody Hates Chris - I've seen couple episodes only, but I loved them.
