Horse do you think it was the main point of the film to condemn the characters/lifestyle? I read it a bit differently, but definitely not as a glorification. It's hard to put in to words though.

Yeah, I definitely didn't think it was glorifying it. Just this feminist chick I was talking to was spouting that bullshit.

Try put it into words, lol. I definitely thought that it was obvious these guys were dick-heads that didn't care about anyone but themselves, and not "nice" people.

i pretty much agree with everything horse said.

the characters are all self indulgent and selfish, and the honest depiction of the lifestyle, like horse said, points out its pitfalls. Because the story is told directly by Belfort, and you're basically seeing the events through his eyes, the film feels like it's persuading you to indulge in these actions while simultaneously showing you why you can't. And this parallels Belfort completely, because he's very conscious of all his wrong doings but probably doesn't regret much of anything. I think in that way, the film is set up as a provocation, because it's told by someone who would seemingly glorify everything we see.

But i think the most important thing is that it plays as a sensory experience, like (and i know a lot of other people say this) the paranoid cocaine ending of goodfellas on repeat.

I'm a huge fan of both Scorsese and film but I just don't really see the big deal. It's basically 3 hours of drugs and orgies. I mean, I get they were trying to show what a horrible guy he was, but there were so many scenes that I just felt weren't necessary and didn't add to the film. Granted, there were some good scenes, like when he thought he made it home safely in the sports car and then it plays back what actually happened. Still, I read somewhere this was going to be Scorsese's next big film, and I was disappointed.

His first "boss" firm friend guy was hilarious though.

Can't really compare them imo.
There's just some elements that Scorsese evidently borrowed from it but that being said King of Comedy is fucking goat

Finally watched this last Friday and wow, i loved every singe second of this, epic movie :worship: Dicaprio is great in this, well everyone is great...even though is 3h long i was entertained throughout the all movie, the dialogue is great, the characters, everything really....and i laughed so hard during the lemon scene  i was literally crying from laughing so hard...Dicaprio more than deserves an oscar, but i don't think it will be this year yet, i think Mcconaughey will win this one. And i wouldn't mind watching this movie again really :8)

7/10 movie for me... I liked it but no Oscar imo.
Leo is overrated...

The scene with Matthew McConaughey was like 6 minutes long, but he amazed me :worship:

Interesting that both of them are nominated for the Oscars in the same category (I'm seeing Dallas Buyers Club tomorrow - He's amazing in the trailer)

Yeah I was talking about this scene haha, he's great while Leo is so-so imo.
