-Because dressing up as a giant bat and fighting crime is the only possible way that I can make my dead parents proud.
Summary- The title basically says it all. This movie reboots the Batman franchise and tells the transformation of billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne into Batman. He eventually faces Ra’s AGhul and the League of Shadows, who want to see Gotham leveled to the ground.
Review- This (and the sequel) is probably my favorite superhero movie. That’s quite an achievement considering the previous Batman movie, Batman and Robin was an absolute disaster. Somehow someone somewhere thought it was a good idea to have Arnold Schwarzenegger making ice puns all the time and have the bat suit have nipples. Like any sensible person would do, Christopher Nolan (director) decided to start the series from scratch with a new take. Rather than having a campy tone as the last few Batman films, the new one was ground in realism and was darker and grittier. The movie actually takes itself seriously, at least as serious as a billionaire who decides to fight crime by dressing up as a giant bat can get. But that is also the brilliance of this film. It tries to explain to the viewers how a man who is wealthy and practically owns the city would ever possibly want to risk his life everyday beating criminals to the brink of death with his bare hands and a snazzy belt. This is a must see for any superhero/comic book/action fan. The only reason you wouldn’t want to watch it is if you’re a die-hard Marvel fan and can’t stand DC. That or you bat-phobia.
