-I'm the movie playing a movie based on a book based on an event that never really happened.
Summary- Five actors shooting for a huge war movie are accidentally placed into a real war scenario. The only problem is, none of them realize the trouble they are actually in and believe everything is still being scripted.
Review- In my opinion, this was the best comedy of summer 2008- although I know there will be disagreements because of Pineapple Express. But nevertheless, this movie was absolutely hilarious on so many levels. Right when the movie starts the “movie trailers” had me cracking up. Who honestly doesn’t want the movie Satan’s Alley to be made? Or Scorcher I- VI? Or Simple Jack? Then there are the amazing performances from Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr., Brandon T. Jackson, and Jay Baruchel. Each playing a Hollywood stereotype (Ben Stiller is the washed up action hero, Jack Black is the drug addict, Robert Downey Jr. is the hardcore method actor, Brandon T. Jackson is the sell-out, and Jay Baruchel is the new guy), it is great that Hollywood has enough humor to mock itself. Just the fact Robert Downey Jr. is cast as a white actor being “the dude playin' the dude, disguised as another dude!” shows how ridiculous the film gets. The story is also really clever and well-written, although some parts do drag a bit. Also, Jack Black was not as funny as I expected, but it’s not really his fault, but the role he was cast in. I highly recommend this movie. Once again, it’s hilarious, everything from Tom Cruise’s ridiculous dance scene to Lance Bass’s cameo mocking his homosexuality. The only people who shouldn’t watch this movie are those who are easily offended. They make fun of the mentally handicapped, black people, gay people, well…just about everything. But to be fair, it’s all in good nature. There is also a lot of violence/gore in some scenes, but most of them are done for the humor and comedy.
