I've been looking over the prospects likely to be available at 6th overall this year. Not impressive. Shitty draft year outside of the top-5, and even the top-5 isn't amazing.

Looking at who's gonna be available in at our pick (6th) most likely:
Nick Ritchie
William Nylander
Nikolaj Ehlers
Kasperi Kapanen
Jake Virtanen

Nick Ritchie is massive (6'3", 230 pounds), but also kinda chubby and slow. He uses his size, but that doesn't translate well to the NHL a lot of times with powerforwards because the kids they dominate physically in junior are nowhere near as strong as the pros.

Jake Virtanen has size, speed, and a great shot, but apparently his hockey sense is horrible and he can't pass to save his life. A lot of people say he's like David Booth... We already have David Booth, and he sucks.

Nylander and Kapanen are hard for me to comment on because they're both playing in pro leagues (the SHL and SM-Liiga), so their production is lower, but they're also playing against men. Nylander is more of a small-speedy playmaker, and Kapanen is a two-way guy with a good amount of offensive ability.

Nikolaj Ehlers is fast as fuck and a pure offensive player, but a lot of that could be because he's playing with Jonathan Drouin in the QMJHL.

Why did we have to suck in such a shitty draft year? All these players are pretty big risks compared to the top 10 last year, even compared to the top 20 last year.

It's a good year to not have one. The picks outside of the top 5 are all pretty shit.
