It just goes to show you how irrelevant the first pick is in basketball....

Seriously.... look at the last 20 players to be first overall picks..... how many of them have won a championship?

Only Glenn Robinson, Tim Duncan, and LeBron James. 3 for 20.

And teams get excited over the fucking lottery....

yikes

yup :y:

Only 8 teams have won the championship in the past 30 years though. That says more about there being zero parity in the nab than the importance of a #1 pick

uh maybe because they start their careers with trash teams that make it difficult for them to develop and succeed.

Your 1st overall pick can still have an illustrious career you know. Give your team relevancy, sell tickets, jerseys.

lol yea

but that should diminish the significance of having the 1st overall pick all because they just couldn't get a ring in very tight competitive league.

Exactly.

LeBron James had to switch teams to even have a chance at winning a championship.

Tim Duncan got lucky. The Spurs already had David Robinson (who missed all but 6 games during the regular season due to injuries) which lead the Spurs to one of the worst records in the league, leading to them winning the lottery and drafting Duncan.

I'd hate to be the first overall pick in any sport tbh.

Thats ridiculous though lol a 1st overall pick can propel a team into relevancy and change a franchise. Lebron left because Cleveland's owner and GM were completely incompetent. If they surrounded Lebron with any talent than he would have won multiple rings there and Cleveland would be a powerhouse in basketball. Michael Jordan changed the bulls. Durant changed the Thunder. They weren't number one picks but they could have easily been. Stars change the league and the only way for small market teams to get one is through the draft so yes, a #1 pick is huge if the ownership knows what to do with it and after it.
