Photoshop ???

I need to start making poster's for performance nights etc, and It would generally be a good skill to have - editing pics/making publications etc. I've had photoshop before but most of it seemed too hard, so I never really got in to it. I vowed to teach myself the basics recently but the online tutorials - theres sooo many of them, and they talk about real complex stuff, that I wana know but is way above me, I've know some pretty daft myspace rappers etc that customise pics etc, but like It all fazes me Anyone got any advise about what to do or alternative software or anything, or any good tutorials for the basics of it!
