iPod Touch Apps Turn White

Postby garycal5326 » Mar 8th, '11, 15:49

Some of the apps on my ipod (the thumbnail on the home screen) turned white. I am wondering if i did something to make this happen, or is there a problem with it?

I used to work for apple tech support...inbound calls. What I can tell you to do is restore the ipod using itunes...and restore it as a new device...not from a backup.

actually, restore from a back up first. If that doesnt work...then restore as a new device. This WILL fix your issue. Restoring from a backup : It will make a backup quick before the restore ( which is essentially removing everything from your ipod..including the OS and reinstalling it and all your files ). The benifit of restoring from a backup is it "should" save all your app info like high scores and settings and whatnot. Sometimes though, that copies the problem you are having and you will still have the problem after restoring. In which case you will need to restore as a new device. Which will put your ipod back to factory settings, then load all your apps and music and crap back onto the brand new/factory settings device. So itll be like having a new ipod out the box with everything you paid for loaded on....none of your info like high scores or settings will be there.

However, it WILL fix your problem. It always does...at apple, we would always try a few things like dude mentioned...reinstallin the apps and what not, and if none of that worked...we just went to restoring and it always fixes it. However, on the bright side, if it doesnt fix it...then you have a hardware problem...and if you just bought it 5 months ago ( from a store...not ebay or a friend..you should be in your 1 year warranty period which comes with every ipod when you buy it. So they'll have you send it in and replace it with a refurbished ipod for free.

either way you win.

Oh wait! Try hard resetting it first. When the ipod is on, press and HOLD down on the power button at the top, and the home button at the bottom of the screen for 5-30 seconds..or a minute...untill the screen goes black and then you see the apple. Then let go. ill try to say that again step by step.

1. Turn the ipod on.
2. Press both the power button and home button at the same time and hold them down.
3. Keep holding the buttons down untill it powers off, then you see the apple logo appear. Let go when you see the apple.
4. Let the ipod turn all the way back on ( this might take a minute or so, usually the longer it takes, it means its fixing something.
5. If that doesnt work...THEN restore the ipod...from backup. If THAT doesnt work, restore as new.

And, of course, come back to this thread if you got any questions. Dont PM me, keep it in here, cuz there might be someone else with the same problem you are having and this thread could help.
