Parallels Desktop 10 (Or any other virtual machine)

Postby TranSlucEnt » Sep 10th, '14, 09:15

Has anybody had any experience with this yet (or any previous versions of Parallels for the matter)? I need to get a virtual machine for school, and just for general use. I own a Macbook Pro and the software I need for my computers class isn't available for Mac and my major is heavily invested in the Windows environment. It's $80 full version so obviously I'm not purchasing it for JUST that reason. I'm going to use it for other purposes as well. I don't want to shell out $300-400 for a laptop that i'll hardly use, and I really like windows 8. Not to mention it's gotten professional rave reviews from what I've read.

Also, any experience with any other virtual machines as well? Looking to buy next week.

Have you tried bootcamp yet?! The installer comes with your Mac.

I know of it but I'd rather not mess with it because its not simultaneous and rather a little complicated to get working IMO. I'd rather just go with a VM. Plus if I get viruses (for whatever reason) on the VM, I can just restore it to a clean slate, being that with Boot camp I'd be totally fucked.

http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion/features.html

You should also see if your school offeres free virtualization software. Mine offers this for free to students.

Whats your experience like with VMware, as compared to other VMs?

Vmware is better made than parallels, I haven't used parallels for a while though. But I know my university uses VMware for their network on the inside (I worked there) and it never really gave us any problems.

Pretty damn easy to use too

If you have problems I can obviously help walk you through it with your assistance!

I think you'll like vmware more, you can turn off the VM afterwords too.
