The Pride

Postby Atone » Jan 14th, '13, 09:27

(Verse)
I shouldn't have to say it, but it's time to get creative
bring back the pride in who made it, who copped it and who played it
who stopped it and who faded? they say atone locked it and came with
a flow like a rock-smith you can call me david - goliath is the haters
i'm off it, see ya later - i'm switchin up - so listen
i'm pickin it up - straight kickin somethin wicked as fuck
pay attention - i'm sick of the wanna be's sayin they king
but they just sweet sixteen's - i'm sinister with what i bring
when push comes to shove i'm standin at the top while you hit the ground
i should be gettin crowned, i'm bringin what the games been missin now
got em sayin "damn this kid is spittin WOW' say my name when you speak of greats
they laugh at you when they speak of fakes, don't try to change now it's way to late
you got that weak flow, them glasses you can keep those
fuck your rims and the cheap hoes, i'm a lyrical freak show
and if you take this as a diss i'm gonna look at you and laugh
and tell you that you aint even on my radar, you don't belong on this path
so if you feel disrespected that's your own fault, kiss my ass
cuz if i speak on weak emcee's and you think i'm dissin you
that's called a guilty conscience so maybe in reality this is true
and you need to step ya game up, try to match our skills
boy stop rappin about lame stuff, come on and get real
it's time to bring back the real rap on tracks, let em know the deal

Honestly, I'm pretty perplexed as to how I feel about this one Atone. On one hand, I love the hungry feeling I get from it. I can tell you're into your writing, and that you mean what you say. On the other hand, I'm not sure how I take the subject matter.

Are you being hypothetical? Like with:
i should be gettin crowned, i'm bringin what the games been missin

I'm thinking, yeah okay this is hypothetical and he's talking about if he would be the best. On the other hand, as I'm reading it I just get that played out vibe of "I'm better than you". It bugs me when unkown rappers speak about being better than other people. You're just as unheard of as everyone else, speaking like a king doesn't make sense.

but they just sweet sixteen's - i'm sinister with what i bring

Real subtle, ;) at least if I'm seeing what I think I'm seeing, you referenced something recent. :y:

lol, when i say i'm better than somebody that's something everybody should think about themself, if you can't think highly of yourself than you don't belong, plus, as i wrote this, i was listening to Nas and felt hungry again, i wrote 2 more verses that go deeeeep into detail about recent happenings in my life, those i will reveal later.

but do not take those subtle lines to serious, i looked thru the creative writing section and picked the some of the first few titles to throw into my verse, i do that alot, sometimes it hits people the wrong way lol, but thats part of my writing style, i take something, and write to that word or whatever, when i was in school i did that to, i think i wrote an entire song based off of Busta Rhymes discography,

I see. Overall then, I can tell you're hungry but it didn't have that much of a "wow factor" to it if you know what I mean? I couldn't pick up on the flow in some spots, but that would have been easier I think if there was a beat to listen to while reading it.

I do think there's a difference between having a high opinion of your own music and that showing, and acting like "you've made it" when you haven't. Which a lot of underground rappers seem to do, and I think it's weird.

in my own mind, i don't think i've made it in the sense of being mega popular, i made it, cuz i have a small ammount of people who ac tually enjoy my music, i may not be lyrically a master who can't be touched, but i have people who have cried cuz a song i made touched them, and because i have a hand ful of people who love my music, that's more that i ever thought of when i first started, and that's more than i was even aiming for cuz alot of my music is made just cuz i wanna get some shit out of my head,

Funny you say that, in a 4th verse (instead of this verse i wrote a different verse for the actual song) i actually say Positive outlook lol. the song basically speaks on my mom walkin out on the family and me having to work my ass off (as well as my dad) to catch up on the debt she left, but it's not specifically about her, the song itself speaks on being real in music, being true to yourself, and quickly mentions struggles that i've fought thru and shit, idk, i listened the the new Nas album twice all the way thru and started writing, even tho my next album is supposed to be a dark, horror story type thing and i SHOULD be writing for that lol.

This was a subliminal diss to me haha
Nah, this was cool. I'm glad the CW is picking up steam.

Yo, Atone, we need one more sign-up for the CW tourney. I PM'd you but you never returned it. Must've been a problem at the post office or something...
