ROCHESTER, Minn., Feb. 10 (UPI) -- A U.S. woman said she was lucky to make her flight on time when security at a German airport mistook a Faberge egg in her luggage for a grenade.

Mary McNab of Rochester, Minn., said she was trying to make a connecting flight from a Frankfort airport on her way home from a trip to Moscow with a $70 souvenir Faberge egg she had purchased from a Kremlin gift shop Saturday when staff at the airport's X-ray machine appeared to become suspicious, MinnPost.com reported Wednesday.

"My rolling carry-on bag went through the X-ray scanner, and they kept it inside the machine for quite a while, then called other people over to look at it," she said.

"They questioned me about the bag, and I tried to remember all my contents. When they said there was something suspicious, something that looked to them like a grenade, I remembered that I'd purchased the Faberge egg. I'd heard from lots of people that it was a famous souvenir that many travelers bought in Russia, so I thought it would be nice to have one," McNab said.

She said security personnel appeared to believe her story but she still had to wait while her luggage was examined by police and bomb-sniffing dogs.

McNab said she and her infant daughter made their connecting flight just in time.

"They were only doing things to keep America safe. And it did kind of look like a grenade," she said. "But everything turned out OK. And it did give me an interesting story to tell."
