Ying Ying Twins Say Split From Mr. Collipark Is About Growth; Kaine Reveals Solo Album
Tuesday - February 6, 2007
On the heels of the release of their newest album, Chemically Imbalanced, the Ying Yang Twins have recently announced that they have officially split with longtime producer, Michael "Mr. Collipark" Crooms.
According to a spokesperson for the duo, the break up stems from creative differences between the producer and the Ying Yang Twins, as well as the duo's desire for personal growth and ambition to create their own independent movement.
"We set out to get [Mr. Collipark's] label off the ground, and we done that. So, I don't feel like there should be any bad blood. Although I did have some, I don't have it now. You just gotta learn to be grown," Kaine told BallerStatus.com. "People promote stuff in a good way and bad way, so everything works hand-in-hand. The thing is, everything don't like to shake everything's hand. Don't nobody really like to play team ball as much as they talking. That was what the whole separation with me and Mr. Collipark was, to keep it real with you."
Although, Kaine hinted at tension and hard feelings between them, he says that's behind them now, and him and his partner D-Roc, look forward to the future.
"The contract was up. I was not gonna re-sign, that was the end of that. Me and D-Roc are moving forward," said the rapper.
Mr. Collipark helped the Ying Yang Twins acheive platinum success on their United State of Atlanta (U.S.A.) album, which spawned the Grammy-nominated single "Wait (The Whisper Song)." He also executived-produced Chemically Imbalanced as well.
Now, moving forward is the plan for the duo. The Ying Yang Twins are currently on a national tour with Da Muzicianz in support of Chemically Imbalanced, where according to Kaine, they perform music old and new -- including their new album's first two singles the Hall & Oates-sampling "Dangerous," featuring Wyclef Jean, and the original hit single "Jigglin'."
Additionally, the group is prepping a slew of new projects, including the sophomore release from Da Musicianz. Also, Kaine revealed that he is also preparing a solo album, tentatively titled ChampiYang, where he will display his "Scrooge" side to the fans.
"Hopefully all my hard work, pain, sweat and aggression, love and joy... hopefully I can expose it to my fans, so they can see that it ain't bad to be a Scrooge 'cause you ain't really trying to get to know everybody in your life," explained Kaine. "I get to express more sides of the Yang's perspective of life. Being from the Ying Yang Twins, we promote a good feeling so bad, people don't really wanna hear me be a Scrooge. So, I'm gotta do the whole Yang's perspective of the Ying Yang Twins on my solo project."
According to Kaine, for his solo project, fans can expect the type of music displayed on the front half of the duo's U.S.A. (United State Of Atlanta) album -- "The front half of that album... all those street songs, all that was me. That's what I brought to the Ying Yang Twins."
ChampiYang does not have a release date as of yet, but they expect it to drop later this year.
Kaine also revealed that the duo has also recorded the next Ying Yang Twins album, which is their last in contract with TVT Records. Although they will have the option to become free agents after their next release as a group, they didn't mention anything about leaving the label. In fact, they say TVT has treated them "exceptionally well."
"As long as we've been in the game, TVT has got to be one of the greatest labels, we've every been on, in all seriousness," said Kaine. He says that TVT treated them better than both Koch and Universal, two labels they had deals with before heading over to TVT.
