Car bombs in the northern Iraqi cities of Mosul and Kirkuk on Friday wounded 16 people, police told CNN.
The bomb in Kirkuk -- which wounded a top police official and seven others -- exploded outside the house of Col. Adnan Ali, a top official at Kirkuk Police Academy.
The seven others include Ali's family members and people who live next door to him in the oil-rich city's Domil neighborhood.
A car bomb in Mosul targeted a police patrol and wounded eight people, including three police officers. Mosul is in Nineveh province
