Lil Wayne is grateful for his album grabbing the top spot on this weeks sales charts. "I'm surprised," he said about selling over 400,000 copies in the first day of release. After selling just over a million copies of Tha Carter III in the first week alone, Weezy told MTV "Thank you...[I'm] just very grateful, that's it. Blown away, of course. Surprised, of course. Elated. Every positive word there is."
Tha Carter III was the first album to sell over a million copies the first week since 50 Cent's The Massacre in 2005. Sales for "Tha Carter III," Lil Wayne's first No. 1 on The Billboard 200, were helped along by several of the rapper's new singles, including the Hot 100-topping "Lollipop" featuring Static Major. His previous biggest sales week was a 238,000-unit start for "Tha Carter II" in 2005, which entered The Billboard 200 at No. 2 and became his fourth No. 1 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums.
