We have just received some breaking news. Akon's former "Konvict Music" artist, Dolla was apparently killed in The Beverly Center in California. We will have more information as the story develops...

22 year old Roderick Anthony Burton II also known as Dolla the Rapper was shot dead last night in LA. According to press reports, an unknown gunman shot Dolla in the head. He died instantly. A suspect was arrested later, but further details were not released.

Dolla arrived in LA as part of his preparations to work on his debut album. It should be mentioned that about two years ago Dolla signed a contract with Jive Records to release his debut.

LOS ANGELES — Rapper Dolla was fatally shot near a valet stand outside a mall after a dispute with another man Monday afternoon, his publicist said.

Dolla, whose real name is Roderick Anthony Burton II, was shot in the head at the Beverly Center near West Hollywood and Beverly Hills, publicist Sue Vannasing told the Los Angeles Times. Police and coroner's officials have not confirmed the victim's identity.

An armed man was detained at the Los Angeles International Airport for questioning two hours after the shooting, police said.

Vannasing said Burton and another rapper, D.J. Shabbazz, were waiting at the valet stand after a shopping trip when a gunman opened fire on the Atlanta-based rapper.

Police Officer Karen Reyner said the victim and the gunman had been arguing before the gunman attacked and fled in a silver Mercedes-Benz.

Burton worked on the soundtrack for the 2006 dance film "Step Up" and recently released two singles with the singer Akon: "Like This" and "She So Fine."
