Teens Arrested in Alleged Massacre Plot

Postby j_shady » Dec 18th, '05, 09:11

LANCASTER, Calif. - Two teenagers were in custody for allegedly plotting to carry out a Columbine-like massacre at their former high school next
Valentine's Day, authorities said.

The former Quartz Hill High students, whose names were not released, were arrested Thursday after searches of their homes turned up knives, ammunition, a gas mask and bomb-making instructions downloaded from the Internet, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

They were being held at the Sylmar Juvenile Detention Center for investigation of making terrorist threats, Brown said.

"I've been working with schools for eight years, and we have hoaxes all the time, but this is the first time that I thought, 'Oops, this one could really happen,'" sheriff's Sgt. Darrel Brown said Friday. "You could see they were preparing meticulously, taking things step by step."

The boys, ages 17 and 15, had been transferred from Quartz Hill to other schools for disciplinary reasons, authorities said.

Brown said an investigation began Wednesday when a student contacted the school's vice principal and said the former classmates were planning a "Columbine-style assault" on the campus. The student said she had learned about it second-hand.

The boys told investigators that they planned to kill Quartz Hill students who had made fun of them, using guns and homemade explosives, then commit suicide, Brown said.

On Friday, deputies at the sheriff's station in Lancaster displayed a page from the 15-year-old's notebook with the scrawled message: "When I'm God, everyone dies."

The notebook was accompanied by a three-ring binder with pictures of Columbine High School killers Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, Oklahoma City bomber
Timothy McVeigh and murderer Charles Manson.

Deputies said they found a black trench coat at one boy's home, possibly to be used in imitation of the similarly-dressed Columbine killers, and the 15-year-old boy had carved the word "hate" into his forearm, authorities alleged.

^Indeed very lucky that they got caught before they actually managed to carry out these awful plans - I just cannot understand what makes teens plot such terrible schemes, what makes them think that this would actually be a solution to anything? What good will it do to kill other teens before you take your own life except destroy the lives of those who are left behind? Do some of them just do it to get 5 minutes of fame? I mean, what goes on inside their heads - is it just blind anger or a total lack of emotion or what is it?
I know that certain groups will have a field day now exposing how these 2 teens were inspired by violent movies and Marilyn Manson songs, but I bet there are more profound psychological reasons behind planning a massacre on fellow students than that...

yeah, planning stuff like this is pretty stupid, but there must be something more to it than mere stupidity, there's gotta be a reason why some ppl snap like this - and i really do think that the fairly easy access to guns in the US has something to do with it, it provides an option which wouldn't seem as evident to kids in other countries...

U know we blame it on the "violent" video games and movies. yet the problem lies with kids having too much free time.

Like wen i was a kid i lived in a city were for every 4 buildings there was one football pitch a hockey pitch and all kinds of gymnastic stuff outside. And the 15 year old kids didnt plot stupid shit like this, coz they were ocupied.

Kids are getting spoilt, and ppl are getting lazy...

you've got a point, although i don't think that too much spare time is the whole reason, it could very well have something to do with it - if kids were more active in their spare time, they wouldn't have so much time to spend on the internet looking for bomb recipes aso. I don't blame violent video games in general, that explanation doesn't make sense since not all kids who play violent video games turn violent, just like not all Eminem fans go out and kill their girlfriends and chuck them in the trunk. it has to be a combination of factors that leads to these ideas...

No seriously, lets look at Russia back in 1980s , although we "evil" mass crook murderes, the statistics will amaze u how little of gang violence, kids killing each other, we had....

I notced it here were i live, there are no sports aparatus wat so ever out side, if even an open space at all, kids spend time in the mcdonalds these days, i feel deeply disturbed by that. It makes me think that humans are gonna die from lazieness..

Edit: im refering to USSR coz at that time all the kids were sport crazy and it was
done on purpose.

well, the US seems to be a special case when it comes to teenage mass murderers, there has been very few incidents in the rest of the world, and youth culture is pretty much the same in the Western world, so being bored cannot be the whole explanation - there must be specific factors other than that and the population size in the US which cause these teens to snap, and in my book the accessibility of guns could very well be one of the reasons.

brainwashed is a bit strong, isn't it ;) although it's true on some counts - it's e.g. pretty scary how blind the general American population has been concerning the war in Iraq
the thing is that young ppl all over the world watch the violent movies that the US has produced, play the violent video games, listen to the same music and still you don't see teens plot mass murders on their school mates on the same scale as you do in the US - maybe they've been brainwashed into believing that you can solve conflicts with guns...
