No-one is gonna use nukes, this whole thread is a filling my brain with fuck.
The only way nukes will get used is if a terrorist organisation gets hold of them and films arent realistic, that wont happen. Even if a goverment gets elected for a country with nukes and aims to launch them, the US would be onto it before it happened, but not with nuclear weapons like your 'source' says. 1 country launches a strike, everyone will get involved, the truth is no-one has the balls to start it all and with good reason.

Chemical warfare is a far more likely possibility, far easier to get hold of and to actually carry out but even that is unlikely. If Korea attacked the US.. or any country in an alliance with western countries, it will end worse for them than anyone else.

North Korea has artillery aimed at Seoul ( South Korea, 20 Miles away from the border) at all times. So when the USA decides to attack NK will destroy one of the biggest economic cities in the world in a matter of minutes.

Are you aware of the artillery capabilities of North Korea? Seriously, its gonna takes more than 'a matter of minutes' to do damage of the scale youre thinking to a major city. Cities are spread out enough to take a lot of damage. It might damage some buildings, kill some people but it wont render the city 'destroyed'.
Also, US drones or jets could take out artillery units within a matter of seconds, the damage that a Brimstone or a Maverick would do to armour...

Storm Shadows being launched from outside the countries radar range to take out command bunkers etc., along with drones and other stealth attacks, Korea's army could be rendered ineffective before they had the chance to think of retaliation if it came down to it, possibly over the course of a few hours. If youre thinking the commandos will parachute in and it will be like the movies, no. Korea launch missles wont work either..

Although North Korea boasts of nuclear bombs and pre-emptive strikes, the country is not thought to have mastered the ability to produce a warhead small enough to put on a missile capable of reaching the US.

It is believed to have enough nuclear fuel, however, for several crude nuclear devices.

They can launch missiles that wont even reach the US, or wouldnt even reach a closer country.

edit: ALARM missiles could just shut down all of the military communication too, along with taking out armour.

They actually successfully launched satellites and their latest nuclear test was so powerfull that it even caused an earthquake, believe me they probably can reach you guys. ( Also they're allies with Iran so they share knowledge )

The only thing that really holds the United States back as far as our military success goes is the way we conduct our wars now. With all of the death and destruction we're responsible for in the Middle East, it pales in comparison to what would happen to a country that actually attacked us with a nuke. It isn't all that complicated, the truth is that even if they did hit the US with a nuke, it would still leave the largest military power in the world intact.

What would change? Well, for one, we would then have all of the justification we would need to launch an offensive against them. The reason that hasn't already happened is due to the tension with China. I assure you though, is something liike that were to happen, even they would step back because it wouldn't make any sense to fight the entire world over the actions of a small ally. Not when there's a nuclear attack for justification; that type of thing would give the US sort of a blank check when it comes to what they could do militarily.

We no longer engage in nuclear war, it's kind of a messy and unpopular thing. That's they've built bigger and better conventional bombs, and in a country as small as North Korea, it isn't a matter of underestimating the enemy, but a matter of math. How much area will a strike destroy, compared to the surface area of their military targets. For all the threats of going to war with the United States, North Korea isn't likely to follow through. They can't do it alone, and China wouldn't back them at this point. It may be a serious concern within the next decade or two, but right now the United States and China have a symbiotic relationship that neither side wants to end just yet.

It isn't going to happen, but if it did, the United States would be able to destroy them fairly easily. The idea is that none of us want that to happen though. The US doesn't want it for obvious reasons, the Chinese don't want it for economic reasons, and the North Koreans might not want it for self preservation reasons. Just as importantly though, the world wouldn't want it, because despite the damage, it would reconsolodate our military and foreign policy support into a unified front that hasn't been seen in quite some time.

Personally, I don't think they'd risk it with their current technology. Even if they did though, what would be the motivation? They wouldn't benefit at all from such a thing. It would only consolidate the military power and support of the United States, and likely cause North Korea to lose what little international support they have with China. It's a lose-lose situation for them, and all of their allies.

No one wins in that scenario, so it doesn't make sense to do it. They're making threats that will result in little to nothing, and we'll all go on our merry way.

And yes i do know how much damage nukes do, and your statement that it wouldn't kill a lot of people is very untrue, even if it would get detonated at a great heights above any country it would bring great harm to the country.

Immediate effect will only be a few kilometers. America is very big, its military forces are quite spread out, nukes in the grand scheme of thing wont do much to America's military capability. Sure long term you have the fallout and stuff but a nuke could be used against... 1 city? What difference would it make?

Sure numerically its a lot of people dying but compared to the rest of the US it isnt that many.

Perhaps they're trying to provoke some sort of preemptive action from the US, but I don't think that will happen, barring any sort of questionable launches that could actually be deemed a threat.

Russia and China wont give up the chance to flip a bird to the US, they would protest any militray action be would they really stand up against the west? Maybe they will just provide arms to the opposition if anything happens,thats what they seem to do the rest of the time.
