Kelly Rowland - "STOP BLAMING HIP HOP!"

Postby ,-,'-{Bar}-',-, » May 1st, '07, 19:11

R&B star Kelly Rowland has stepped forward in defense of Hip-Hop, which has been besieged with broad criticism.

The former singer with Destiny's Child told RWD magazine, a UK-based publication, that rap music cannot be blamed for all of society's woes.

"I don't think Hip-Hop is to blame. Every music has it's own expression, it's own art. So it's how you choose to express yourself through your art. I support Hip-Hop until I die; at the end of the day, we're all individuals, we make our own decisions and we know right from wrong," the singer said.

Rowland also stated that Hip-Hop has been the scapegoat for myriad of offenses, but other genres haven't been held accountable in the same way.

"But I mean, we got to really look at what's happening here - what going unsaid. Look at Virginia Tech murders- there was supposed to be some situation with the killer listening to rock music - but rock music doesn't get blamed. Like, who are we pointing fingers at here, really? Lets read between the lines , you know?"

Cho Seung-Hui, the Virginia Tech murderer, was obsessed with a song called "Shine," a popular tune by 90's Christian band Collective Soul.

According to witnesses, Seung-Hui repeatedly played the song on his laptop in his dorm room. It was a chart-topping song in 1994.

Rowland hopes to top the charts when her highly anticipated album Ms. Kelly hits stores on June 26.

The single "Like This" features rapper Eve and is rising on the pop/R&B charts.

Fuckin finally someone aside from a rapper has stepped forward... Here's my thing though. Why is that we can blame hip-hop for violence, but not R&B for premarital sex? ALL they talk about is sex. It could be a song about preschool and they'll mention sex somehow. Rock music has CRAZY suicide talk in it. Like seriously. Country music is about all these depressed middle aged women who want you to go out and feel like a woman, which I always thought meant get a dick from behind. I hate people

i agree with you fully and my beileif hip hop is blamed because hip hop aint just music its a lifestyle, i disagree when people say hip hop causes street violence or hip hop causes people selling drugs, if people are rapping about that stuff in a positive manner and telling people to do it straight away they aint even real hip hop artists, but the people who accuse hip hop dont even understand real hip hop

anywae, i just listened to some emo music and am about to go slit my wrists so i can see the blood...any up for joining me ?

^^^

every music is a lifestyle. you choose it and then start taking it as a part of you. emo, rap, metal, rock, even pop or country music.

people blame hip hop, cause it's easier. it influences our life in some way, but as i said many times before: WE are responsible for what we do. not Eminem, not Ice Cube, not 50 Cent. it's me who has the choice and me who has to be aware of the consequences.

just like Nas said "nobody says you have to be gangstas, hoes / read more, learn more, change the globe" - hip hop creates a certain lifestyle, but it can be modified. and we as homo sapiens are able to see the difference between good and evil.
