Record Labels Try Memory Card Albums

Postby fearless31666 » Sep 24th, '08, 03:26

The music industry is changing everyday and it seems like the record labels have come up with yet another solution. Next month they plan to sell music with a new technology called slotMusic. Rihanna, Usher, Chris Brown and Akon along with 25 other artists will be the first to try out the new technology. Album-filled memory cards, produced by SanDisk, will be available for sell at the time of album releases. The USB memory card will allow users to put the music on their mobile phones, PCs, MP3 players and any other device with a USB connection.

Expected to sell for around $15 in stores like Wal-Mart and Best Buy, the USB Memory Card albums will also include Robin Thicke, New Kids on the Block, Weezer, Leona Lewis and Elvis Presley.

hmm idk. it may increase sales due to being easy access to put on phones, etc. i dont think it will make a drastic change tho. Record labels always try to find a way around illigeal downloading by providing internet alternatives (itunes, this idea, etc.) but it seems they fail to see that people download music cuz its well..free lol its not a gimmick

this will pretty much be the same thing as buying a flash drive just with files already on it. n thats wat sandisc makes anyways flashdrives

people illegally download music because they can do something with it (i.e. put onto mp3 players, burn on to a disc.) if you take away the mp3 players and blank discs then people won't need to download the songs cuz they'll have to carry around their computers if they want to listen to the music.

stupid cause its allready being done. almost all phones have a sd memory card slot in them these days. all you have to do is get music from your computer and put it back in your phone.

in my opinion this will stick around, i see it becoming bigger but it wont replace CD, i think it will co exist with it, but on that note the way they will fix illegal downloading is when they change the format of how music is played, they have been doin it for years when the changed form vynal to tape to cd, each format era has a crisis and changed format to boost sales then has a crisis and changed format its a cycle.

you're not seeing the point. the album will be on the card. not give you the album so you can put it on the card yourself. basically like buying a CD of the album but instead intended for people with mp3 players.

not entirely true. i download songs all the time to specifically listen to on the computer and not 2 put on a mp3

it was a generalized statement. the point i'm making is mp3 players are fueling the illegal downloads.
