Collateral Murder

Postby Almostlity » Apr 6th, '10, 09:47

Overview

5th April 2010 10:44 EST WikiLeaks has released a classified US military video depicting the indiscriminate slaying of over a dozen people in the Iraqi suburb of New Baghdad -- including two Reuters news staff.

Reuters has been trying to obtain the video through the Freedom of Information Act, without success since the time of the attack. The video, shot from an Apache helicopter gun-site, clearly shows the unprovoked slaying of a wounded Reuters employee and his rescuers. Two young children involved in the rescue were also seriously wounded.

The military did not reveal how the Reuters staff were killed, and stated that they did not know how the children were injured.

After demands by Reuters, the incident was investigated and the U.S. military concluded that the actions of the soldiers were in accordance with the law of armed conflict and its own "Rules of Engagement".

Consequently, WikiLeaks has released the classified Rules of Engagement for 2006, 2007 and 2008, revealing these rules before, during, and after the killings.

WikiLeaks has released both the original 38 minutes video and a shorter version with an initial analysis. Subtitles have been added to both versions from the radio transmissions.

WikiLeaks obtained this video as well as supporting documents from a number of military whistleblowers. WikiLeaks goes to great lengths to verify the authenticity of the information it receives. We have analyzed the information about this incident from a variety of source material. We have spoken to witnesses and journalists directly involved in the incident.

WikiLeaks wants to ensure that all the leaked information it receives gets the attention it deserves. In this particular case, some of the people killed were journalists that were simply doing their jobs: putting their lives at risk in order to report on war. Iraq is a very dangerous place for journalists: from 2003- 2009, 139 journalists were killed while doing their work.

I saw this shit yesterday.

It's fucking sickening, isn't it?

They just laid into those innocent people, without provocation. Then killed the people trying to rescue them, and ran over the bodies with a tank.

United States Soldiers? What the fuck. What kind of protection are they providing?

These are innocent people being murdered without reason.

Yeah...they're trigger happy as fuck.

It's like they're playing a video game. The photographers and the people they were with were just walking down the street. They saw the camera the guy was holding and said "Oh, an RPG". It was ridiculous.

Then, when some one tried to save the one guy that was still alive, they shot into the van. There were two children in the van, that you can see through the side windows. Yeah. Still, no signs of hostility, they just mowed them down.

You can see after they shot into the first group of people, the street is darker where they were at. It's like a huge puddle of blood. For absolutely no fucking reason.

The military never released this video. It was leaked by a whistleblower. Up til now, Reuters was suing to get the video released, but the military wouldn't comply. It's very disturbing footage. This type of shit goes on all the time, too.

It's sad that our citizens are being turned into killing machines, and being unleashed upon innocent people. What a great war, huh?

Yes, a tiny portion.

Every time there is an announcement about "civilian casualties", you can guarantee that it went down like this--or worse. General McChrystal was talking about it at one of the "townhalls for the troops"; he said that they had shot an "extraordinary" number of people in Afghanistan, and that, to his knowledge, none of them had proven to be a threat.

And we just keep on sending people over. The only thing it does is make people more likely to become extremists over there.

War as a video game.
What better way to raise the ultimate soldier?
Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.
