Financial crisis in the US/Europe

Postby Jiskefet » Mar 29th, '09, 21:40

First time i ever start a topic in my life... Decided i would start off with a serious one.

Well here i go:

I think it is clear that the worldwide financial crisis hits the US the most if you look at the news. But is it really that bad? Is it true that so many people have to leave their homes?

Saw this pics today by coincidence (made me start this topic), makes it really look bad:

http://community.livejournal.com/abando ... 96491.html

Is this just an exeption (Baltimore) or is it really that bad in the US today? Been in NY lately but besides some empty business buildings everything seemed normal. Even been in Harlem, Queens, The Bronx and all seemed like nothing changed. Here in Europe i dont see much difference with before the crisis, so do you Americans? And Europeans in other countries? Well, discuss.

I live in southern Maryland, so most of the people around here work in Washington D.C., the nuclear power plant, or the local Navy base. I've noticed that their living the same way, but a lot of the supporting jobs, like teachers, drivers, salesmen, and things like that are getting hours cut or jobs taken away.

I know about 10 or so kids with jobless parents right now, so I can tell a difference.

Well thats a good thing... i aint rich either and my life didnt change too. Its just the fact that its all over the news that companies are going bankrupt and governments pumping shitloads of money in economies but do see anything around you change? Only thing is that i see that it is a little harder to get a job, but not that much. Is it just a media hype then? Just curious how it is in the US...

The diffrence is BIG if your looking for work or work in a company thats in a dodgy financial position. Your not gunna get much people who will notice here tho seen as most are under 20 lol.

Well there you got a point... didnt realize that. But everyone has parents... and if they have to leave their house or change lifestyle im sure you'll notice someday . And yes your right about seeking a job... hear that in my surroundings too. But cant it be its just goining back to normal seen the fact that it has been too easy to get a job last few years?

Okay thats a difference yes... have to say that it is true that it hits the US harder than europe... But is it like they have to move or getting homeless and all? And is this just happening in the last few months this crisis is in the media?

i live in England, recently moved area so need a new job. Where i am theres not much going. I read in a paper there was a open day for 7 diffrent vacancys and about 200 people showed up lol. thats pretty much how it is where i am.

Well that sounds pretty bad. Must be lucky to get one of those jobs then. Crisis may be hyped but there is definetly some effect on the people worldwide from what i read here. Dont see much of it here so far... Hope you find a new job anyway :y:

Have to agree with that too, there are alot of countries where there is a continous crisis compared to the USA an western european countries. Its just the fact this one is affecting the countries with the biggest economies.

Only a few kids have actually moved out of the area. I'm not sure about the other kids, like if they are in danger of losing their homes or anything. We're so close to Washington D.C. that most of the people in my social circle are ok.

I dont know about you peeps, but in most countries, people who work, like me, might have had to see your salary getting 13 to 35% cropped, and organisations just using every little dirty trick to fuck with you. :n:
