I do (fully) support the idea of raising awareness about Joseph Kony, but that is probably as far as it goes - for me, with this campaign - after digging a little deeper.

Well, it seems more like its less corrupt than most charities and stuff if i am honest. As to whether that is 100% true, im not going to say but hopefully it is. In any case, it destroys most of the arguements against the organisation. The one area that i am still wondering about is what they will do after Kony, will they stop corruption in the government, or focus on the soldiers themselves?

Either way, i still think it is a worthy cause, so i am still going to donate some money (or buy things from them, however you want to say it)

Well this IS the serious DEBATE section so imma just put it out there:

Intuitively, i just dont like things that go viral and try change the world through sensetionalism instead of legitimate debate. Remember Iraq and pictures of the twin towers? I mean, there was a flow in the argument that went
Kony is bad- agreed
Kony needs to be stopped- agreed
to do that needs local troops- agreed
local troops need the United States assistance in terms of SOLDIERS- err, now that is where the problem might be.

Like i read somewhere, the whole "white man saviour" attitude might bring more harm than good in the long term. it really gives some "people legitimacy" to deploying troops in an African state. No question the people of the organisation mean good and they want the best, but they are not exactly well "qualified" to make such RADICAL decisions and basically COERCE government to do this (since its around election time anyway). Further, while their finances are NOT going into their pockets, is it really an awareness campaign worth joining? How much more good can any awareness bring. Should more efforts be put into the groung providing food, water and schools? Out of all those millions only 250 students are being funded univeristy and 600 high school? Surely their priorities are misplaced.... enough for now i guess. Sorry for taking it too heavily but w/e
