But you are your brain. Therefore you are the one producing the thoughts.
You think your personal attacks make up for what you lack?

You are your heart as well.

But if someones heart is bad at pumping blood it isn't their fault.

It's not really the same. Your heart is a part of your body, which is yours, but your mental state is your brain.

Yeah but we have no conscious control over our intentions and thoughts. We just have this profound illusion that we do.

I'm not sure if you've come round on this or not.

If we don't have control over our thoughts then who/what does?

Your autonomic nervous system is what you can't control; if you did have to control it, you'd be so consumed you'd probably die...

The stuff "you" can control, like talking and thinking about certain things, certainly is free for you to do. However, things like breathing (until of course, someone brings it up and you start manually breathing lol), blinking, heartbeats, generating saliva, digestive system, etc are all autonomic and out of your control.

But seriously. Our thoughts are just products of prior chemical reactions in our brain.

Which we have no conscious control over.

Oh fuck, Crash... What the flying fuck...

You just made me think about that in a way I haven't before. That's trippy.

Let me think more before I try to reply to that.

Yeah, it's pretty hard to get your head around.

Because it just seems that we have conscious control over the many decisions and thoughts we make.

But won't your brain make the chemical reactions necessary to think what you wanted to think? But then you'd need prior chemical reactions to think what you thought in the first place.

Fuck me.

Fuck me.

Exactly.

That's why free will is an incoherent idea.

To have control of our thoughts and intentions it would require thinking before thinking.

I'm trying to wrap my brain around it...

But what was the first chemical reaction in our brains to start this chain-reaction of reactions, and where did that come from? All we're doing is back-stepping to a previous reaction as to say there's no free will but then there had to be a first one.

Sounds a bit like the typical religious argument, "who created the big bang?" shtick, but doesn't it apply here?
