A Computer Simulation Universe

Postby classthe_king » Dec 11th, '12, 02:32

I'm not trying to argue for this I just wanted to share this article and thought this would be the best place to do it. It's interesting.

I prefer the theory that we are the 3 dimensional projection of data contained in a black hole. All these theories are fascinating to read, even if I don't believe them.
What is your take on this article?

Well I'm not a physicist so they lost me once they started talking about how they would check it but the beginning was extremely interesting and sounded plausible. The part about being able to communicate with other simulations blew my mind.

A glitch in the system could be an explanation for all sorts of things; ghosts, ufo's, cryptids, etc.

Could be.

Don't know what the relation is with this but apparently the sighting of Bigfoot coincide with UFO sightings.

Maybe it's a correlation of being in an area filled with a lot crazy people/drunk people.

Not sure if I understood, but I could be an RPG character?

That would be more of a stretch. It would most likely be them running ancestors to see how they evolved, and we're they're simulated ancestors.

I do indeed enjoy Spore.

The thought of being in a computer simulation is pretty wicked, but I'd rather not think about it. And even if we were, it's not like it would make a difference to my life.

I agree with Solace that it doesn't really affect me, and if it is true I'd almost rather not know. If it's real to us, that makes it real since this is the only reality we know.

I didn't understand any of the physics but this just seems to be another "What if".

this.

i wonder how they would account for infinite regression. obviously there has to be one starting point, and time is linear. i also don't understand what posthuman means. wouldn't that mean there be post-post human, and then after that and then after that? maybe its saying life (which i assume would be any object with the presence of a conscious) evolves so far that there is a situation where an object without a conscious can simulate a world and a conscious. how would that happen? what would it base it's reality off of? if you don't have a conscious, you don't have memory. personally i think the reality is mundane, it be nice to think that this is all a simulation, it give us something to talk about for a hot minute. you'd think zombies would have appeared by now though

I doubt we're a simulation. Too much diversity for me to buy in.

I'm sick of all these crackpot theories. Until I see proof that there is a multiverse, let alone a computer simulation universe, than it's just a well thought out hypothesis. It's all a bunch of mathematic mumbo jumbo to me.
