Pitbulls are beautiful dogs, too bad they have a bad reputation.

A dog is only as good as its owner.

Pitbulls are only vicious if the owners allow them to be. i have read about plenty of gentle pitbulls.

I just saw on the news in my state about a pitbull that bit off a boy's nose and swallowed it; they said that the dog had shown no signs of aggression before this. This makes me question my last post.

The dog was put to sleep and they were able to get the nose back and reattach it, by the way.

Really, sometimes dogs bite?!?!

Pitbulls are a recent breed that were bred to fight. Instinctually they will be more agressive than a Spaniel. It doesn't mean they are all very dangerous, but anyone who puts complete trust in a strange animal is a fool.

I don't know the whole story, was the boy the dogs owner? Was he tormenting it? Did he startle the dog?

Psychology teacher answered this. Put bulls aren't dangerous at all, but usually they're raised in low income areas (think ghetto places) with owners who treat them like shit. So the pit bulls themselves act like shit

I found an article about it. http://dailyindependent.com/local/x503819695/Ky-boy-recovering-after-pit-bull-bites-off-nose It syas that the boy had been staring at the dog when the dog attacked (and after the dog had been wound up). Maybe it felt threatened.

It's difficult to say. The dog could have honestly been playing, because a pitbull that wants to hurt you doesn't let go.

Any dog would be vicious if you treat them harshly. Not just pitbulls.

I've met quite a few wonderful pitbulls. It all depends on how they were raised, and how people act around them.

There were 18 fatalities because of pit bulls in 2012. There are close to 10 million pit bulls owned in the United States. That's a ridiculously small percentage. Plus lets compare that to other things.

Falling out of bed kills 600 people a year
http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1562978-1,00.html

Deers kill 130 people per year
http://reason.com/archives/2001/11/21/north-americas-most-dangerous

Cows kill 20+ people per year
http://tierneylab.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/07/31/dangerous-cows/

The problem isn't pit bulls, the media just likes to sensationalize pit bull attacks because it makes for a good story.
