This thread is about religion. Geno told Hage to keep the remarks about religion out of the rest of the forum, and suggested that if he wanted to talk about it, he should open a thread in Serious Debate. I think everyone is mostly covered at this point.

As far as I'm concerned, I understand why people believe in the idea of God, but I have trouble grasping why people would believe in religion. People will fervently deny that there's any possibility that religion could be completely wrong, and then say atheists are just stubborn jerks that cling to science like their religion. The only difference is that science changes when it's disproven, and religion simply denies any conflicting evidence.

I say feel free, there's nothing wrong with being religious. I think as far as the big picture goes, religion does tend to hold society back a bit, but as far as a person-to-person basis goes, why not be religious?
