Sleep Paralysis/EHS

Postby shady6 » Jul 10th, '08, 21:01

If you have NO clue what either of these things are:

Sleep Paralysis: Sleep paralysis is a common condition characterized by transient partial or total paralysis of skeletal muscles and areflexia that occurs upon awakening from sleep or less often while falling asleep. Stimuli such as touch or sound may terminate the episode, which usually has a duration of seconds to minutes. This condition may occur in normal subjects or be associated with narcolepsy, cataplexy, and hypnagogic hallucinations

EHS (Exploding Head Syndrome)

NO it doesn't involve the head actually exploding....

Anyways, I made this topic to see what others think about this stuff. Also, if people are interested enough, I could tell you more about hallucinations I've seen reported from Sleep Paralysis.

Hell, maybe you've even experienced it before.

Personally, I've had partial sleep paralysis before, only my arms were effected, but i could hear some type of strong wind, stronger than there actually was.

That's why i started researching this....and found it quite interesting.

Thoughts?

Also, I'm more than happy to post what I know about causes and hallucinations (most interesting stuff, imo)

Well then I guess either I'm the only one that finds this even relatively interesting (go me), or first post was tl;dr.

Meh.

i belive that this temporary partial paralysis is largely due to lack of blood,in other words oxygen, supply only for a short time tho.
try this :take ur right hand and close ur fist around ur left hands wrists and squeeze real hard,u feel a sense on numbness and u cant move ur fingers or it become difficult to do that(btw this works betta if sum 1 else does that 2 you).
thats wat i can make out , i mean as the most logical reason
peace :b:

omg, this has happened to me quite a few times. i did exactly the same as you about a year back, reseached the internet on why sometimes when i woke up, i just could not move.. scary shit.

i came across this one site where they sed people believe it to be a ghost or a demon sitting on top of you therefore not allowing you to move.

but thats bullshit, the articles you posted wer correct. but seriously, its horrible. waking up, knowing u are awake, but feeling like u are in some sort of coma. then u just keep forcing urself to move, which feels nearly impossible. and u start to worry ul be stuck like that, until suddenly one of ur jerks works n u manage to jerk urself out of it.

i hate every time this happens to me. its nasty shit. scary as fuck.

Me too, but for a few mere seconds, but I couldn't move any part of my body, then I just fell back asleep!

Huh.

Interesting to see I'm not the only one on here that experienced it....

Nonetheless, it seems to have ceased happening to me, even though I've been having around 6-7 hours of sleep a night

can someone summarize that mumbo jumbo shit?

my weak ass guess is sleep paralysis is when you wake up you can't move? or get dizzy? i have no clue please someone explain. btw i once woke up and felt dizzy as fuck, than i feel on the floor and my whole body was vibrating on the ground. my mum seen me, she was shocked and the funny thing is i didn't feel a thing or even know it was happening to me :confusion: but yeah i guess its from lack of blood. so the good thing about experiencing that was my mum got a kilo of cherries :smoking: was fuckin tasty

yup, had sleep paralysis a few times.

where my whole bodys been paralysed, and i've also had voice and visual hallucinations :y:

the first coupla times it scared me, now it just annoys me lol.

and you can get it for many reasons, one being stress, one being just the way you lay, like if you lay on your back or something i think. the main one is cus you're just either drifiting into sleep, or just coming out of a deep sleep, & your body & mind are not quite together yet. normally the drifting into sleep one is cus maybe you're tryna keep yourself awake, but your body & mind needs sleep, so it's just tryna get you back to sleep, that's all.
