School Schedules...

Okay...a lot of schools have either a 7 peroid day...where students go to 6 or 7 different classes a day for about 45 or so minutes...however...a lot of schools are going to a block schedule..where you have 4 blocks(peroids) a day and class lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes...Now...

With a 7 period a day schedule..it's based on 7 classes..as I said...you're offered a wide variety of classes..or maybe limited to some..but you mostly take those same 6 to 7 classes for the whole year...you tend to have more homework and less classwork....however..

With a 4 block schedule...it's based on 4 blocks(peroids)...as I said...you choose 4 classes for the first half of the school year..and then four new classes for the second half of the school year...you tend to have more classwork and less homework...however..

With a 6 to 7 peroid day...you have freedom to get a break every 45 or so mintues to stretch your legs and you don't get bored with just one subject and lectured for an hour and a half...but with a 4 block schedule..you tend to get anxious and bored for having to sit there for almost two hours...your mind tends to begin to wonder...but with the block schedule..you get to take a change of classes and get a different teacher and a different class..so if you don't like the class you have the first half of the school year..you might like the new class you got..if not..you're shit out of luck...

What schedule do you think is better...can you relate to both???

I myself have had both the 7 peroid a day and 4 blocks a day...I tend to like the block schedule more...just because towards the end of class the teachers like fuck it..and let's us talk..but that's besides the point..you get more learning and you get more time to get help and comprehend the material if you need it...I can't really explain why...I just like the block schedule better...

My school used to have the 4 block thing, 80 minutes per period. But ours were set up differently. We learned alot more.

But the beginning of the new semester they changed it to 5 period days, to match with some other schools in the city. I say we learned much less, we aren't meeting curriculum standards.

Yeah..you get a lot more credits and can graduate early here...like me..if I take all the classes I am and keep meeting the curiculumn...then I can graduate the beginning of my senior year..and I'll only have to take classes until December...I think that's pretty decent..they also allow students to take summer classes for about 100 dollars each..which isn't bad at all...a lot of students like to do that so they can graduate early...

I'm used to 6 periods per day, each lasting 1 hour. I think it works well at my school. I feel that after an hour in a class students cannot focus on tasks and this encourages talking (not that I'm complaining but with tight courses works gotta be done). Anything less than an hour is also not very productive, so I feel an hour is the best solution.

At my school theres the 1 hour period and then a 2 minute break and another 1 hour period. But wtf, studies say that kids can't focus more than 1 hour. But then the 2 minute break does not do anything its still like learning 2 hours in a row.


IMO the 4 block is much better, you learn alot.

Like with my school...we go to school at 7:20..that's when the first bell rings...the tardy bell rings at 7:30...then we stay in class until 9:00...then we have 7 minutes to get to class..it's a big school...well not big..crowded...it needs to be bigger...there are four lunches...each last 34 minutes...then we get out at 2:30..which ain't that bad at all for highschool...

Are you in college??? 12 hour school day...we go for 7 hours..if that...but just for the record..I myself get up at 5:41a.m. every morning on school days..the bus don't come and get me until around 7...I live about 1 mile from the school..but if you live over 1 mile..whether it be 1.1 miles..you must ride the bus or be dropped off..or drive yourself..but I need time to get up and get ready...and that isn't that early to me...I'm used to it...

Actually..if you do the math...7 hours time 5 days is 35....12 hours times 3 days is 36..so you go one hour more than us ..and are you going back to get your G.E.D??? But I go to bed around like 9:30 ..yes I said 9:30..sometimes 11:00 or so...Just depends on my mood and if I'm tired or not...

...o and i only have 4 classes per day skool starts at 8:30 till 3:15

in my school we got 4 blocks and we got an A-day and B-day with 4 different classes each day.
We start school at 7:15 and get out at 2:15

What's A-Day and B-Day?? I've heard of this before ..but I can't recall what it is...

U Don't no what that is? man well u have 4 classes on A-day then u have 4 more on B-day then it goes back 2 A-day the classes r 90 min. in length though

my school is like this: 5 days (Monday to Friday)

Starts 8.00 am every day

Monday and Tuesday: 8.00 am to 3.30 pm

Wednesday and Thursday: 8.00 am to 1.30 pm

Friday: 8.00 am to 2.30 pm

I go to trade school...I'll be a car mechanic...

Well..I've never heard of that...for us..we're on 4 block schedule with 90 mintues per class...and we stay in that class for the first half of the school year....THEN we switch classes...
