Selling pigeons WTF

Ok so I just found out today that one of my friends has an unorthodox scheme of making money, what he does is he runs around the streets throwing two jackets sewed together onto pigeons, and then selling them on to random people for about ( £20 $26 23 euros )

Is this normal ? Have you heard of anyone doing this before ?

Around where I live there a loft that has a few hundred pigeons that either get raced by whoever owns them or get sold to random people

Fruit is for fruits.......then again, during the school year, I averaged 20-25 apples a week, about 75 a month...from September - June.
