Why do we need a thread for moments on this website?

I mean like, this is a forum. where a bunch of people who dont kno each other come 2gether to talk about random this becauz theres nothin better to do. who is going to remember a hilarious joke, or two members in a flame war? how is it important to remember? what's desirable about remembering a conversation on a chat room?
