Agreed. I don't really understand it either, but I already wrote a long paragraph about that.

As an American--one living in the Bible belt, no less--I must say that it is sort of strange to see how people are acting.

I can understand the feeling of victory, sure. He was considered the mastermind behind the most tragic single event to happen to the nation since Pearl Harbor. He symbolized the most frightening threat to the country that most citizens have ever conceived--an enemy that isn't centrally located, and that can strike at any time, leaving us without any sound course of retaliation.

So, it does make sense that people would feel like it was a good thing that happened. The problem is that not nearly enough people are questioning that feeling. We haven't beat terrorism. We haven't even learned from our mistakes. The Reagan administration did practically the same thing that we are doing now when they trained Bin Laden. It's the American way.

I will say that, for me, it's important to note that Bin Laden was the face of the Muslim world for many (ignorant) people in this country. He was the guy that came to mind when Islam was mentioned. It's perfectly fine for people to walk around with shirts that read "Death to Muslim Terrorists" where I live. Not secular or Judeo-Christian terrorists, just the Muslim ones. Bin Laden was the guy these people thought of when Islam was mentioned.

Now Bin Laden is dead, and I think that's a cause for celebration in the Muslim world. This man brought more hatred to them than anyone else could have. He set them up to be targeted by ignorance and racism. He gave every backwards politician the ammunition to use against the overwhelming majority of peaceful Muslims. Now he is gone. That doesn't mean that the racism will stop, but it is certainly something to take solace in.

It's not a time to party, it's a time to reflect. That's my take on it.

Brother Ali wrote this on Facebook and is describes a lot of what I feel.

Brother Ali
When all people in my country are able to live with dignity and others don't suffer to ensure our luxuries, then I'll paint my face and celebrate with you. Until then, I'm smiling through tears.

If anyone should be celebrating, it's middle-east and all the muslims in the world. Finally, the second biggest threat to our remaining population is dead. You know why were not happy though? It's because these brainwashed idiots aren't happy that Osama died, their happy they have a reason to be racist out in the public again. It's fucking disgusting. You would think racism would decrease by Osama's death, after all he is the leader of "Al-Qaeda" isn't he? Hell fucking no, not until every single muslim and the entire middle-east is whipped out of the planet, this terrorist bullshit will never end. The target was never one, it was all.

I can sympathise with this so much, lmao...Everytime ANYTHING vaguely terrorist related happens, people in my area jump on the opportunity to get racist to anyone who looks like they might have the slightest chance of being a muslim, which usually means shit for me, haha...

And I agree with Kez's viewpoint of celebrating anyone's death is just not right.

Agree with all the comments here. Good stuff.

One thing I hate about England is the ignorance from, what I'd called, logical people. I hear people say stuff who I would never image to say such things - people I'd expect to be more rational.

I've got some friends, who, if anything vaguely related to the Muslims or immigration or anything like that comes up, I have to leave the room because of how ignorant they are with it and how they won't listen to any other point of view (in this case, mine).

I don't really think that's strange. In the US there's the death penalty, so it isn't that big scandal having killed him. Now or later, doesn't matter. In Europe it would have been different maybe.

And you know what? I don't believe they've thrown his body in the ocean. I'm sure they brought it with them to America.

lol I recently got kicked off on on my Facebook by a couple of people because I made a status about "nationalist bullshit" on St. George's Day. I never gave a fuck about that day in my life being honest, but whenever it rolls around people start going "KEEP ME ENGLISHHH" and talking about England flags being taken down and immigrants and all this shit. So of course this guy goes "fuck you where's ur pride", I was like lol do I have to be racist to be proud of being English? Then he starts going on about how he can't wait till there's a civil war so he can kill us along with "them".

It amazes me that the Sun can print a story that a pub was made to take England flags down and everyone automatically believes it with absolutely no proof just because it's anti-immigrant and invokes patriotism, even though it never actually fucking happened.

Bit off topic but that shit fucking pisses me off lol

^Fuck, I remember that. I got into some fine arguments that day. All the "I'm not racist but...." statuses were out in force. Fucking idiots.

St George's Day has turned into an excuse to be racist basically. The irony being every fucker in this country is probably descended from immigrants somewhere down the line. It's all about whether your brown or not, to me. Let's take some of the Polish people that are here - their grandkids will be white and will speak with an English accent. An asian man's grandkids will be brown and speak with an English accent. Which one will get the abuse? The asian one, obviously.

I fucking hate this country sometimes.

^ Being fair, there IS two sides to every coin, lol...You do have the idiots I know who love to go around talking shit about how they're gonna take over etc, stirring shit up in the most stupid ways. And no racism, but it tends to be the Arab/Pakistani/Indian/Somalian groups who do that. They do provide a stimulus...

Of course. Although I can't say I know many like that.

But there is so many generalisations - according to "im not racist but..." crew everyone immigrant/person who's descended from an immigrant is like that.

That's true, lol. The worst part was overhearing someone's conversation about how they managed to acknowledge that they were immigrants originally...And how this therefore led them to the conclusion that England should accept white immigrants from European countries, but reject any dark skinned immigrants...He was explaining this to the Romanian kid in our class who was getting bullied.

The change of story is pretty weird as well. One minute, he was armed, next he wasn't. One minute, he held his wife as a shield, the next he didn't. I think they could have captured and tried him (this would have been the best thing, imo), but were worried about what he'd say in terms of his links with America and it's intellegence.

This is a great article:

http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/co ... 78041.html

Isn't that what, is said to separate the West from the uncivilized world when they are fighting in this 'War On Terror'? Is is not the judicial system that apparently, creates a fair democratic system that they flaunt as the greatest. The West do 'fair' justice; the rest don't. Isn't that what we've been indoctrined to believe? Do you not think it is hypocritical to then totally ignore a 'fair' trial simply because of logistical problems? In favour of a fair trial, they simply execute him. They execute him in the way that those 'barbaric' Islamists would do to a Westerner.
