My mp3 player is full of rap ONLY RAP, no funny wack songs either, strictly that old 90's shit or some sick classic shit. Rap never gets boring for me, I love it just how it is, (I don't listen to any new songs) so fuck all that commercial shit that's going around at the moment. There's still thousands of more artists that are my style that I need to check, so its never boring. :smoking:

I can't blame you for thinking that.

I'm ashamed to be a part of the "UK Hip Hop" group because it gives the impression i rap in a London accent over very fast beats about how i'm gangsta and will hurt people, shouting the word "brap" all the time.

Personally i think UK Rap is fucking shit, and i live in the place.

bollocks

sway, akala, n-dubz, wiley off the top of my head are all genuine

they rap about being gangsta no more than usa artists

Killa wrote:^ @ Matz. There exceptions though.. UK rap is far to much like grime 99% of the time. I see both your points cos i do feel UK rap is stereotyped as being all Grime/garage styled bollocks. But i agree if people took the time and listerned properly to Sway/Akala/Wiley etc there realise how slept on some proper uk hip hop is....TBH i dont think it helps that Dizzie broke into America but thats my opinion. Dont rate N dubz either tbh, but i wouldnt put them in with the sterotype.

well they might be exceptions i dno but these artists are the ones that are closest to making it out of all uk rappers.....theyre probs the more successful ones so i see these artists as the ones representing uk rap and not the others who havent been as successful

Rap can't get boring for me cos my libary's so big, it could take me months for me to play to play the same song twice, and there's always new talent out there or old/unreleashed shit i may have missed in the 90's so i go and revisit them or i'm busy on my own shit.

As for UK, it suffers from the typical rep ends/brap shit which still happens and it gets worse as more MC's are just one hit wonders with hype songs, but search through the shit, you'll find people like Skepta (tho i hate Rolex sweep), Akala,Plan B, Klashnekoff, Wiley, Skinnyman, Kano & Sway. But for me, you could say that for US Hp-Hop stereotypes aswell but you'll always have artists like Em, Nas, Rakim, Xzibit, Talib, WUu-Tang etc...just depends how you look at it

just got look for it, if you lost the desire to look for it then, mainstream has done a number on ya man.

look at akala mixing in rap/rock/electro to old school drum beats.

budden still somehow taking concepts and making them feel and sound brand new, with crazy twists on them. the whole slaughtahouse group somehow taking pure underground rap and breaking mainstream listeners into having to check them out.

maybe the problem for people feeling this way is that they want something new but the want it put right into them, like when wayne was "new and different" no one found wayne, wayne forced the style out there, thats all fair and well, i think he sucks but it worked ya know, maybe if people started looking at diverse different rap styles and not just blowing it off after listening to 2 songs they would relise "holy shit this does suck if you think about it as rap, but check this as just music and DAM its awesome" or just opening ya mind to somehting you dont like straight away, force yaself to check the whole album...twice and maybe after a while you understand what the artist is tryna do appreciate it then love it.

anyone who tried somehting new gets blown off straight away coz listeners cant be assed tryna put the time in to understand just how dam creative and amazing the music is.

fuck just check how quickly people push away uk rap, when we got 10000 styles over here that americans have never heard in there life.....then they complain nothing is new  < not directed at anyone btw i know slimms from holland so dont anyone try the smart as comment :y:

I know, I just had the same thought when I was trying to find a decent track to play on my mp3 player on my way home.. I was like 'god, I need something that I haven't heard like 2435435 times..' and ended up listening to 'This Is The Life' by Amy McDonald.. :sweating:

Really, it's been like 8 years since I started and I still got 'Gangsta's Paradise' and 'Still D.R.E' on my mp3 player, mostly because none of the upcoming artists don't release anything that'd appeal to me. I'm not talking about my favourite rappers, cause I will always have a thing for them, but jeez, I can't listen to them all the time. :( Plus they release like one album per year, that's not enough.

@ Bar's comment: I'm not going to listen to Lil Wayne. I checked out his few songs and I didn't enjoy them. I don't like his voice and the way he flows, so why would I spent 4 minutes on listening to something I literally CAN'T enjoy and stand?
I started listening to rap, because it made sense to me. Because some of the artists literally gave me chills when I was checking their songs out. I want rap to mean something, because the world around me doesn't make too much sense anymore, there's too much shit I see in the hospitals every day, so I'd love at least one thing to be meaningful. And right now it all seems like bunch of fags with gay names who put out 'crank dat' stuff and wear golden braces on their teeth. Even if it's only mainstream, I don't see why I have to dig myspace to find a decent track to listen to?

I don't enjoy the old school that much, I'm more into jazz/soul/rap mixes. I might switch to that I guess.

I'm relatively new to Hip Hop in comparison to lots of people in this forum so I have the chance to explore into this genre without getting tired. In my iPod I probably have 95% of rap, the rest is just a tiny mixture of different genres mainly including Bob Marley's Reggae music.

What I think is a problem and which is slowly happening to me is that a lot of people including probably lots of people in this forum download lots of albums within very little time so you don't have time to "absorb" what the album really is like. I might buy/download an album and I'll probably listen to it for quite a while, 2 weeks or 2 months (if I really like it) non-stop. So eventually you have so many albums and music that you don't know what else to download and you think you've heard all of the music you have.

I mentioned Akala and N Dubz, if you read my other post. I'll admit i forgot Sway but tbh i haven't checked him much.

And oh yeah, Wiley's brilliant. What is it he raps about again? Oh yeah, "money in his pocket" :zipped:
