The way I see it is utility and personal preference usually always wins out over animal rights. Also culture arbitrarily affects our views on animal rights, i.e. in Eastern Asian countries killing cats wouldn't be a matter of "wow how could you do such a thing", but more like "how could you let so much food go to waste?" I also don't like how say a dog killer would be decried yet, there are those that turn around and benefit from slaughter of livestock merely by choice and not necessity.

Either all animals have rights and the distinction between them are pretty much nonexistant and are set by what benefits us the most or what we hold dear to us. Although I do believe all animals should get equal rights and one's cuteness shouldn't give it higher reverence, i.e. difference a dog and cattle is pretty much indecipherable other than the former being a pet and the latter being food. No I don't condone skullcrushing of cats or kittens, nor do I believe insects should be held to equal importance as other sentient beings like orangutangs because of their lack of intelligence and cognitive ability.

As for this thread I'm not a vegetarian nor do I ever plan to be, and if I do it would be for personal reasons and not for being some crazy treehugger. It's just annoying how people can look at all these animals being slaughtered or even go out and hunt on a whim, yet decry cat killers or dog killers for doing the same goddamn thing.

I don't have a problem with people eating cats and dogs. I have a problem with people torturing them...which is most common in Asian countries, with the perverted little turds that inhabit certain areas of those countries. They get off on shit like rape (just look at the video games they've created for their rape fantasies) and torturing animals...and it's basically condoned.

I'd never stop eating meat, though. And I've never believed the "humans are meant to be vegetarians" rhetoric. Vegetarians have far more complex digestive systems than humans.

Me neither, I don't condone torture of any animals, I just feel that our culture pretty much values dog/cats' lives (pets basically) in higher esteem than other animals, ala hunting deer just for the thrill of hunting without provocation isn't deemed anywhere near as bad as some random schmuck killing a stray cat just for the sake of it. But I digress torturing animals is just terrible, still wouldn't be a vegitarian though.

After have read all again, just to say that @VBV didn't maybe put it there for that , but I understand subject as: should we necessarily hurting the animals before eating them and not, should we eat meat or not.

We're omnivorous creatures, of course we should eat meat.

That's why the words eat and meat rhyme.

C'mon sons.

in French it doesn't rhyme, I should not eat meat then. :p

Sir, you have raised an extremely valid and excellent point, however, to the public eye it may seem to be slightly biased. I still commend you for an excellent reply and wish you the best of luck in the future.
