I think people over generalize his political stuff with the conspiracy content.

There is some stuff--especially on his older releases--that are a little out there in terms of conspiracy theories. But most of it is on point, it's just history that people aren't familiar with, so they assume it's the same type of conspiracy content. I didn't realize that until I started reading up on South American history, and the United States' role in interfering down there.

One thing about it, regardless of how people view him, he isn't doing it as a gimmick. He practically put his rap career on hold, buying farmland in South America and building a school for orphans in Afghanistan. Not just paying for it, but actually going and working there too. That's a big deal too, because a guy like that doesn't go through a major American airport--especially international flights--without getting grilled by Homeland Security.

In his age though, you can see he's cooled on a lot of things. The biggest "conspiracy" content he has now is the mention of 9/11 sometimes, but even in interviews now, he prefers not to talk about it because he wants to focus on historical events that can be easily verified.

Listening to him now, it's hard to really disagree with a lot of it. Huey Newton being killed in the FBI Cointel program, the assassination of Che Guevara, Spanish genocide in South America...these are all things that are fairly easily verified once you actually look it up.

People hate on the guy, but it's because they've come to associate him with conspiracy theory underground hip hop. I don't think that's a fair description of him though, based on what I know of his music and political views.
