What do you bench?

Postby Block » Nov 1st, '10, 20:57

There's gotta be a few people who work out here. I just started lifting again after about 6 years and I'm maxing at 210. Yeah, not that good.. But after about 3 months I expect to be at around 230-250.

Ayone here lift? If so, what's your max/reps? I rep 175 all day (not a lot by any means).

I workout, but I don't bench. Was thinking about starting to do, though. What's best to start with?

Find your max by stacking weights. I'd start around 100 if you havent benched before, then stack by 10's until you can only do 1 rep with that weight. That's your max. Then cut that down until you can do 8-15 reps (depending on if you want bulk or fat loss). Lower reps = bulk. Higher reps = fat loss/lean muscle.

So if your max is 150 your reps will most likely be around 80-110 depending on how many reps you're looking for.

Thanks, lower reps it is then. Got no fat to lose, lol.

Yeah for arms it's usually bulk anyway.. Who wants lean arms? Unless you're a girl, lol. But only work out each muscle group once a week (if you didn't know that) that's still a 5 day a week workout, with 2 days off.. depending on if you jog / do abs... Fuck this healthy life style shit, it takes up too much of my damn time. lol

Yeah, I know, thanks, though. I jog and do abs frequently. Daily push ups and crunches, try to shadow box with 22 pound dumbells at least twice a week. Gonna enter next years marathon too, try and run half of it.

Nah, I don't do a lot of lifting. I'm not concerned with size, really, except for my upper body. I do P90x for 3 months, every other month. After I quit boxing (was in it for 4 years) I stopped working out all together and I'm just getting back into it this year.

lifting more than twice a week, max, isn't good for your muscles. it doesn't give them a chance to recoup. it's actually detrimental to muscle growth because you're tearing the fiber without the chance for growth.
