What happen to Serious Debate?

There's barely any new threads anymore. And what happen to debating about serious things in general? I'm sick of personal debates.

Half the people on this forum don't know how to debate, so the threads just turn into people insulting each other personally to try to win the argument.

Not really. If youre gonna insult them, so will they. And it just keeps going back and fourth until the entire debate changes about who's better in life. I've done it before and I always look back and think what an idiot I was. It ruins debates. No one should insult anyone in a serious debate, no matter how much you think the other person is an idiot. You must keep in mind this is the internet, anyone can lie about anything.

Wait what the f... There's assisted suicides? Doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of suicide? What's so suicidal about it if youre gonna have someone assist you. That's extremely messed up.

This I highly disagree with and don't feel like turning this into a debate about this subject but if the person is ignoring evidence and chooses to be an idiot by constantly repeating refuted statements. Than just about any sane person would likely get pissed off, obviously I'm not saying make every insult be something that you would concoct or have an Embase meltdown, but you're not going to get anywhere if you try to be the nice guy at that point, besides I'm pretty sure it's a fallacy to discredit someone's argument just because they insult someone, you can still have a substantial debate even if it turns a little heated.

It's for really old people that just hate living and have some horrible disease and a doctor will inject them with something to make them fall asleep and kill them.

Thing is with that that most people don't really know much about the conflict and makes for a really boring, redundant debate. If there were actually people from both sides of the fence on that issue that brought legitimate arguments to the table, it would be really interesting. Unfortunately, even in 'real' life, in my experience, it tends to just go in circle and straight to insulting.
But this and religious debates tend to just to go off topic to insulting with no actual discussion of the topic so should probably be avoided.
Maybe someone should manage the serious debate section and weekly (or every other week) provide a topic for people to debate on.
