get a desktop, unless you plan on actually taking the computer with you to places, a laptop is a waste of money.
You'll never find a laptop with over a 3Ghz clock speed, idk wtf he was talking about.

It's not all about RAM and Ghz. You can have a processor that runs at 4Ghz, but my i7 running at 2.6 Ghz will beat the pants off of it because it have 4 Cores and 8 Processing threads.
Basically, if you're looking for a decently priced laptop, you're looking at a Dual Core processor and about 4 GB of ram.
Working at GeekSquad, I've come to love Asus more than i used to. Asus pretty recently started making their own computers, back in the day they supplied HP, Toshiba, Sony, and most of the other manufacturers with the parts to build the computers (motherboards etc). Now they make their own computers and they're great. Not only the performance, but the build quality is incredible. So trust me, just get an Asus, you'll love it.
