Who Else Thinks Relapse is OverRated?

People who say Relapse has no content are misunderstanding the proper use of that term in this context.

As they do with the word "substance". Subject matter is not relative to substance. Just because all he talks about is murdering people doesn't mean that's a lack of substance, it's HOW he does it which indicates that.

Relapse is one of his most substance-filled albums. Line from line, packed with mini-fables, persona-juggling, listener-connecting, irony... As all of his albums but especially of late with things like "Buffalo Bill".

He by no means skimps on the substance or depth regardless of the fact he's talking about killing. He takes it as deep as he can at that time, pushes the mindset to the extreme and is obsessively descriptive.

Just because he's not talking about his real life, or depressive shit you wanna hear doesn't mean it's not content.

yeah but that's only what eminem fans are gunna find, not random people who listen to this, I mean that's how I feel anyway.

That's because Eminem fans seem to think Em's main agenda was always personal shit.

People forget so quickly. SSLP and MMLP were largely unpersonal. Sure he mentioned personal issues and had a few personal songs but the issues were often in punchline / ironic-form or in the form of escapist art (Brain Damage, 97 Bonnie and Clyde, Kim etc.).

It was only TES and Encore that were personal.

His serial killing / zany shit is just as valid as his personal shit. It's only because he hammered the personal stuff in so hard. But neither is more valid, Relapse - Like SSLP was a lot of random shit and a few personal songs.

I meant as in, we will see the substance, where ouutsiders will just say it's all about killing and whatever. It's all contradictory anyway, from where he was and is now on content, but that's how people are, including me and you, it's just what we all do whether consciously or not.

It's overrated by some fans who'll love anything he does but underrated by the general public a great album but not a classic like his first 3.

relapse is a good album but not a classic, an ok comeback would of been better without the accent and a abit more content in it apart from just killing and rape'n, but not a classic album and not a bad album either.

it is not @ all overrated. you can tell each song took a long time to write; it's so carefully constructed. each rhyme, each cadence, each word combines to form a very nice piece of art.

i am confident that 99% of the posters on this forum (myself included) could never play with words, rhyme with words with the finesse eminem shows in Relapse, or write anything close to the quality of Stay Wide Awake. in fact i'm 100% sure.

we are, after all, not 37 (most of us are teens) & we haven't been rhyming for 20+ years. Relapse is a seasoned veteran just seeing how far he can stretch his abilities (he's rhyming entire lines in Stay Wide Awake, fucking ridiculous).

if you listen to rap for the technique, for the structure, & not for the personable, relatable content then this album is for you.

but just because you can't do it, doesn't mean you shouldn't say it sucks. you have every right. you can say the accent sucks. i liked it. *SHRUG*

i feel like relapse is realy overrated,idk why people lie to themselves,honestly for a comeback album after 5 years , i was really dissappointed especially with the content and his annoyin accent,thanks god Beautiful save it this album with a couple of other songs,so yeah i really feel its overrated people saying its crazy im still bumpin it and shit,i dont think this album deserves all the respect people are giving it,

just because u think it's over-rated don't mean everyone else does so when someone says they like it that don't mean they r lying to themselfs

and if people wanna give it respect, let them everyone thinks different of the album
