I think that it was the overdose he was talking about.
Basically he had no choice but to go to rehab after that like it was a defining moment.

That's what I thought too, but then he says "I planned to relapse the second I walked out of that bitch/Two weeks in Brighton..." I always thought this referred to his 2005 stint in rehab. Or did he immediately relapse after the 2007 overdose too?

He must have been talking about the first time he went to rehab. I remember him saying something about being totally ready to give up drugs in his last stint in rehab. He made that choice before entering for the final time. So he's just confusing us chronologically or something. And he went to rehab after the 2007 overdose for the final time.

At the end of 2009 he said he had been clean for almost exactly a year.

Which would mean his last rehab would have been sometime in 2008. He probably checked into rehab in spring of 08...did his thing and got sobered up, rested a bit, then started recording a bunch of shit with dre.

Now if in 2008 he wrote that song, saying last year was a tragedy...then he would be talking about 2007.

And for the record, being on drugs IS a tragedy. Just because you didnt die, doesnt mean its a "near" tragedy. Come on now.

I'd assume it's the break from one rehab to the next, and idk if he is clean clean, like maybe taking weaker things that won't affect him in some dosages, but idk i have no fuckin clue
