Recovery: Eminem, CD review
Eminem's 'Recovery' takes your breath away. Rating: * * * *

Interscope/Aftermath, £13.99
This is the album many fans have been waiting for Eminem to make. At 37, he drops the fart gags and cheap pop culture slander, to let rip on a subject that actually matters to him: himself.
Most rap battles involve other rappers; Marshall Mathers sounds like he is doing battle with himself, utterly determined to deliver at his peak. Engaged and focused, he pushes his metaphors and multiple rhymes to the limit, switching between anger and remorse, pride and self-loathing, all the while revelling in his own complexity. There are rants on suicidal depression (Going Through Changes), loss (You’re Never Over) and paranoid love (Spacebound), but it is Eminem’s confidence in his skills that allows him paradoxically to dwell on his weaknesses.
With a Queen-like stomp, Cinderella Man is an astonishing display of verbal prowess, in which he pictures himself rapping “circles around square lyricists”. Occasionally over-slick backing tracks hamper his flow, but when Eminem gets going, he is untouchable.
This is not a mature record, exactly, but he somehow succeeds in framing his misogyny, homophobia and all-round bigotry with an undeniable sense of empathy and humanity. It is complicated stuff, and sometimes the sheer intensity of his rhyming takes the breath away. Only someone this good can get away with being this bad.

Spot-on review.

Except for saying 'framing HIS homophobia' - Again, they still don't seem to get irony, I just can't... I hope they don't really think his views are serious, it's so fucking easy to dissect when he is or not.

Pretty good review, I think with alot of the negetive reviews, If you read them closely there being written by people who arent gonna give Em credit for anything........The sputnik music review, I was like "Damn, why they shittin on it like that", then I clicked the link for there review of the MMLP ansd they reviewed it even worse, so it made sense..........Most the unbiased sights are giving it an average of 3 1/2 to 4

I just read the Pitchfork and Slant reviews. :facepalm :facepalm :facepalm

Fucking pretentious pricks. Seriously, how are these people even allowed to write? If you are a critic, you should justify your score, but these guys just seem to ramble about everything but the actual content itself.

I often think some reviewers read the lyrics and don't "listen" to the songs. Or they are just trying to be politically correct, or they're stupid, etc...

And I don't understand that mature comment either :confusion:
