I read this as a response on a site to a review, and just had to post it here.

I'm in my late 30's, always been a fan of the classical artists - that is The Ramones, The Beatles, Billie Holiday.
I was never an Eminem fan, and hated rap music with a passion, that is rap music played on radio. I was told by people around me to give good artists a chance, and that I was listening to the wrong artists. To this day I don't know how I convinced myself, but I gave Eminem a shot. This was last year when his 'Relapse' album came out, I found it very dark and deep, perhaps it was too dark, considering I was someone who hated the pop-rap on the radio, then hear Eminem's songs. I found it inconsistent, but I could see the talent, but my mind on rap wasn't really changed.
Then a week a go, a friend of mine purchased 'Recovery' and gave it to me as gift, and said I'd thank him later. I didn't listen to it initially, then over a two-day period when I was unable to work and was in bed sick, I listened to it from start to finish. Then again. And again. Another few times too. Actually, to save time, I'll just say I haven't stopped listening to it. This Eminem album is so relatable to me, you and everyone. It's about life, it's storytelling, it's funny, it's dark, it's catchy.....it's a classic, in any era.
Since, I have bought every other Eminem album, and I can see what everyone saw in him - that is a genius at work. Eminem is not a rap icon, he's a music icon. I almost pinch myself, but he's the only artist today that makes me believe in the art of music again. Thank you Marshall.
