While rumours swept Balado suggesting the 40-minute delay was down to Em insisting on keeping his trainers clean, the truth was much more dramatic.

Unknown to fans, T in the Park bosses called in security teams to hunt for a gang of laser pen maniacs who had targeted the rapper.

Eminem - real name Marshall Bruce Mathers III - revealed that four laser pens aimed at the stage were the real reason behind the delay. The high-powered lasers could be seen on the big screens and darkened stage from among the packed main stage crowd. The laser pens can be so powerful they can dazzle and blind pilots and are forbidden at concerts and music festivals.

Unaware of the risk to the star, irate fans booed when he had not appeared 40 minutes after he was due onstage.

Unaware of the drama unfolding as the police and security tried to locate the illegal lasers, they chanted: "Where the f*** is Marshall?"

A source said: "Eminem was desperate to go onstage but he was held back for his own safety.

"Well, get f***ed up for me, too. I remember the time I crawled under the table and started speaking in tongues and it went something like this, Edinburgh."

Elsewhere, the weekend's big names hailed the festival as one of the best on the planet.

Black Eyed Peas star will.i.am said: "Playing festivals is a world of difference from playing your own shows. You have people there who aren't necessarily there to see you and they're in front because they wanted to get the good seats.

"There's no time for comfort. You've got to have energy.

"The last time we played T in the Park, what I remember most is the crowd are nuts. The crowd are crazy. I just love playing Scotland."

Proclaimers star Charlie Reid followed their main stage show with a hint that they are ready to retire.

He said: "T seems like a good end point and the appropriate one."

And twin brother Craig revealed there will be a movie version of the musical Sunshine On Leith.

He said: "They're scripting this year and hopefully will start filming next year."

I was also there, squashed against the bars, just left of the stage. I had been waiting since Newton Faulkner, a good 5 acts before him so I stood for around 7+ hours in total but it was worth it.
In which part of the crowd were you guys? And I noticed at least 3 laser pens shining on the set at at least on time which makes sense cause I remember thinking I would be so pissed if the crowd was shining them in my eyes while I was trying to perform but at the time I just thought he was late cos the techs were taking the piss setting up.
